Well, I just lost some 2300 rep points. This is the greatest blow to me ego I have ever sustained. It's right up there when Layne Blakestad jilted me in the 6th grade. But I guess I will recover.

But seriously, I am relieved to have to have been relieved of so much rep power. I'm just a detailing newb, after all. Thanks, Mike.

Well now......

Seems a bit of an adjustment to the settings altered everyone's numbers! Those with really high numbers will show the greatest drop, from a percentage standpoint, while those with very few rep points won't see much of a drop. This is due to the system apparently making all previous rep awards adjusted to the new settings.

Let's give this a shot for the time being. Just so you all know, there are now limits on how many people you can award rep points to each day, how many others you need to award points to before bestowing more on the same person, and the percentage of points award is also greatly reduced.

It seems a bit better, Michael.

What about fixing the little green ranking? For example, I've only had 5 people give me rep points, but my green bar is past the limit

For what it's worth, vBulletin software comes with the Rep Points feature and it can be tweaked from the Admin panel for different settings. When I worked here on the MOL forum I enabled it and in hindsight that was probably a mistake for the reasons Tim outlined above. At the time I thought it would add value to the forum community.

I personally never base anyone's answer to a question on the Rep Points but by the quality of the answer itself.

(Now if someone will just give me some Rep Point for my post!)

I will trade REP points for Buffing lessons please let me know how much per hour.

Agreed. And it bothers me too when I see those unearned points. However..... (the other shoe),

I just don't want the system to be discarded because of us Newbs.
Let the more experienced forum members decide. Regardless of rep points.

Also,

-The rep points help find good teachers which promotes "each one teach one.
-IMO, "Thank you's" don't help other newbs find good teachers.

A big part of the "problem" with setting rules for when you can and can't (or should and shouldn't) give rep points is policing that rule.
