  • easier way to package car soap

since i can last remember, ive been transferring all my deep crystal car soap into an empty bottle of ALL liquid detergent and using the handy cap aka measuring cup along with it. it has made the process of mixing the soap and water so much easier and cleaner too. i usually use about 4 gallons of water along with 4 ounces of soap but did not want to always have to measure out 16 capfuls every time and that can get quite messy. also, you dont have to worry about the excess soap on the cap since the shape of the cap for liquid ALL allows the soap to be drained back into the bottle easily without creating a sticky mess. And on the cap/measuring cup, there are 3 lines for measurement with the middle line equaling 1/2 cup which is 4 ounces, perfect for me. well, maybe meguiars can come up with a high tech bottle of their own and sell it by itself, so we dont have to always pay the extra cost for a bottle that would last a lifetime. sorta like how mr clean sells the replacment soap and filter on its own except this one being that it will last a lifetime

DISCLAIMER: im not sure if this idea is out or not but i havent seen any around the stores in s. california (ie. autozone, kragen, pepboys, kmart, walmart, etc...) but mind you, i only shop over the counter, i havent really got to check out the special world of online/catalogue/mail order type of car care vendors so i cant say but lets get real, meguiars is pretty much the whos who in the car care world and can be found in every store i mention, so im suggesting this product to them for people like me, the average consumer who shops over the counter and favor products that differ from the others on the shelf, either by price, difficulty of use, bonus microfibers , and so on.

also, i had an off topic question for anyone that can help, i recently bought the smooth surface clay kit and the included microfiber does not have the silk edging around the border and also feels more softer/velvety/dense compared to the sepreme shine mf i have(staticy), could be due to the fact mine have been used and washed but anyway, is this the brand new microfiber without the edging? or is it a special towel that come as a bonus on meguirs products? i just wanted to know since the new mf that replaces the supreme shine loses the silk border so i assumed they were edgless but the stitched edge actually feel softer then the old silk one. anyways, should i avoid contact with the stitched border and the car paint?

Great idea! I'll have to reserve the next empty for that reuse. Like you, measuring with the regular small cap is a poor solution, not a pour solution.

I'm use the 2-bucket method learned here, have a Grit Guard on order, but only use a gallon and an ounce of soup for each car-- with normal dirt. Too cheap to go 4X. Of course, the water-only bucket I fill up more.

The new Supreme Shine Microfibers have their edgings removed. I think the main reason was, after washings the edging started to come loss from the towel.

I have never worried about the edging contacting my paint, but I do fold my towels in a way that minimize the edging contacting the paint.

so are you saying that the mf included with the smooth clay kit is in fact the new replacements? i wasnt complaining about the quality, as it is very nice and soft, its just that the stores around me all seem to only carry the silk binded ones so i was suprised when i saw this inside the clay kit.

It might be worth mentioning that the pumps for the Detailer Line soaps dispense one ounce per squeeze. Not sure if they fit all of the consumer line products, but maybe they could be made more readily available.

Hey Murr When you say the pumps for the detailer line pump out one ounce at a time, does this also include the dispensing hand pump from ads?

Another option is the bottles used with Sta-Bil gas treatment and Micro Restore micro fiber soap.
These have the two spouts on them. You remove the cap from the measuring spout, squeeze the bottle and it pushes the product into a measuring compartment. Then just pour it into your bucket or bottle. I have used one to measure my APC+ for years.
I also have one of the Detailer Line pumps, but I have never used it. Gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for reminding me.

im not sure i understand correctly or not but wouldnt that force you to rinse out the cap before placing it back on the bottle or soap? or is it like the ALL bottle where the cap is designed to flow fully back in the bottle without getting all over the bottle. im just lazy and any method that requires the least amount steps will due. i understand laundry detergent is actually quite strong and they designed the bottle so there would eliminate the chance of getting some on your hand, although car soap is pretty harmless, i just like the neat factor of the idea.

I'm not the best at explaining things, but I'll give it a try. The picture will be from Photo Bucket since I didn't have much luck with the MOL Gallery and I really don't have the patience to figure it out.

When the cap is removed from the spout that has the measuring chamber, (The left one in this picture), and you squeeze the bottle, the product flows through the external tube on the left into the chamber. Pour the product into your bucket or bottle and replace the cap. If you need several ounces of product, you would need to repeat the process the necessary number of times. No mess, no drips, pretty easy to do.

I use the bottle in this picture for car soap. Its easy to use and it fits in my detail bag.

There is another brand of car wash that uses a "detergent" bottle with the cap style that you describe. I'm sure existing bottle designs are available for this use.
