  • Please look into decline in Supreme Shine Micro fiber Quality

    Dear Meguiar's,

This is just a request that you look into a decline in quality of the Supreme Shine Microfiber towels.

I loved these towels, and I typically buy about 24 of them every quarter at at minimum.

However, they seem to keep getting thinner. They become saturated with quick detailer and dust so much quicker now, etc. They are so thin I have to use twice as many to do the same work as before.

I really loved these towels, but I honestly think I'm going to have to find an alternative.

I know Meguiar's may have not intended to change the towels, but perhaps you should push the supplier to restore them to the quality of before, the thickness of before.

Where are you getting your towels from? If you are looking to try something else, Autogeek has a great selection of towels. I think I have like 9 different types/brands of microfiber towels. My recommendation would be to go with the Cobra Detailing Cloths. You can get a 12 pack for about $30, which makes them about $2.50 each, which is definitely more cost effective than buying them individually. Or just pick a few different towels and see which one you like the best, and then buy that one in bulk. Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

Greatly appreciated! I will try those you recommended. I loved giving my money to Meguiar's products, but I must now try something different due to the thinness.

      Thank you for the tip!!

        Try the ADS microfiber.

          OMG you aren't imagining it!

I just bought some new SS towels from ADS. I took one of the new ones and folded it 4 times, then one of the old ones and folded it 4 times, and I took a picture of them with a couple of cookbooks on them.

The top one is the new one.

And, it fails the absorbency test too, when compared to the old one.

I mentioned this recently and was told the only change to them was that the satin edge was removed. It doesn't take a scientific test to see the thickness of them has changed over the last several years.

This is most definitely hard to ignore.

Yes, I complained several months ago and was also told nothing had changed.

I think it has gotten even worse since then. I mean, honestly, one wipe and the thing is saturated with wetness and dust when quick detailing. It can't be good for the paint having such a thin pile of fibers.

I'm glad you guys replied. Awesome picture!

The Meguiar's were nice as they are easy to obtain, but I'm just going to have to order others now and spend a bit more money. It will be worth it.

It is a shame though. The Supreme Shine's were awesome until this past half a year or so. I'm really going to pull the new ones from my pile and stop using them on my cars. They are that bad.

I tried to guess Barry Meguiar's email, but he appears not to have one. ha-ha.

I actually just ordered a case of 36 from Rick at ADS. I will be sure to follow up with the thread once I receive my order. I will not be happy if this is the case though....

I thought I saw them thinner. I thought it was the way I was washing them or something because it wasn't until then that I noticed.

Re: Please look into decline in Supreme Shine Micro fiber Quality

I canceled my order at Amazon for the Supreme Shine towels....even though I got them at a great price.

I've been dissapointed in the current microfiber offerings from Megs (ever since they did away with the Gold Glass line). Can't say I've had much better luck with Cobra, two Shamrock towels are falling apart and the other set has the edging coming loose.

Just curious from that pic, was the "new" towel washed before taking that photo? Maybe they plump up a bit before after washing? Just trying to offer suggestions on the difference.

I second that. They are a little thin, but are paint safe and do a great job. Plus they are a good value at $10/dozen.
