  • Meguiars Slide Lock™ Detail Brush

I heard that these has been discontinued but there are still a whole lot of places here in Malaysia that's selling them. I've been using this a lot and I just simply love it and got myself a couple of more just in case.

But today I've received an email forwarded from a friend of mine:

"---On 2009-07-24 00:44:00.0 You Wrote Us--- My question is this :- Meguiars Slide Lock Detail Brush - The bristle is made of ??

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting Meguiars with your product question. The Slide Lock Brush used boar hair for the bristles.

I was told quite some time ago by the sole dealer here that's it's made of horse hair. We are a Muslim country here so this is very sensitive to us. If it IS truly made of boars hair, the dealer should have understood what to do and there should be at least a warning label stating this.

Could anybody please clarify or confirm. TQ.

Well you heard it from Michael Stoops, a Meguiar's employee who probably wasn't lying when he sent you that email. If it isn't acceptable in your country to have a boars hair brush, I'll gladly take them all off your hands!

(honestly though, how much is shipping from there to the U.S. haha)

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Thanks everybody for the reply. Pity cuz it's such a good tool to have around.

I've checked the shipping (by air) minimum would cost around $10 for <1kg. Unfortunately, they're already booked, sorry.

Aw man...you're just a bit too late. I've already agreed to send them over to our good friend from down south...

What disturbed me most is that for a local dealer/distributor, they should know that this is quite a sensitive issue over here (and I was also informed that it's also illegal not to display it as such). I hope somebody is doing something cuz I know they still have quite a number of them in stock.

Well they can't cater to every one specifically.
You need to watch what you use and not rely on others to watch out for you.

I agree. Half of it was my own fault for not doing any further checks. But they did told me that it's made of horse hair when I first purchased them. I guess either they were misinformed or just plain ignorant (sorry if it sound a bit harsh).

No worries, just sounded like you were blaming them.
Now you know what Boars hair looks like and can watch for it in the future.
Maybe you can get your slide locks re-haired with something else.

Just curious, why is horse hair OK and boars hair bad?

I respect your religious beliefs, but as you said, Meguiars shouldn't have to create any warning label, The consumer should be able to find that out on their own.

I believe pigs, and thus boars, are a bit more of a respected animal. Though I must admit I thought cows were the main one.

I don't want to get into religious believes as that would be of an individual issue. I'm also not blaming Meguiar's as a whole but I do believe the local dealer should share a social responsibility to do so.

Just giving an example, we have an ACE Hardware store here which also sells boars hair painting brush, but they have a special section dedicated for them. I believe the local (Malaysian) Meg's supplier/dealer/reseller/ should also do so to avoid any more misunderstandings/inconveniences.

I do want to apologize for any misunderstanding I've caused.
