  • Dissatisfied with Tech Wax and Customer Service Line.

    After purchasing the product I was excited to apply it to my truck, a 2003 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 2500HD and one of my bikes, a 2005 GSXR 1000. They were waxed the year before with Meguiar's Paste and I usually use Meguiar's mist and wipe product between washes to keep my vehicles clean.

    I got the package open only to find that something was wrong with the wax, it has turned into a watery substance and was clearly not what it was supposed to be. I shook the bottle up as best as I could, with no change in the materials consistency. Maybe the WAX was at the bottom?

    I emptied 80% of the bottle and sure enough there was some product at the bottom of the bottle, almost enough to do both fenders.

    I called the customer service line on the box and after waiting on hold for about 20 minutes I talked to a guy I THINK went by the name of Kevin, but my phones reception mixed with his quiet voice on the phone hindered my hearing. I kindly explained the problem with the product and he asked if I had left it out in the elements. I told him I just purchased it, but perhaps during the last winter it was stored in one of Walmarts many trailers and I suppose it may or may not have been out in the cold. He more or less told me that it says right on both the bottle AND the box the bottle comes in that you are NOT supposed to store this product in the elements, but to keep it at room temperature. I had just purchased the product the day of and it was 60 outside, so I don't understand why he gave me a negative attitude on the phone to begin with.

    Anyways, I looked over both the bottle, the packaging the bottle came in, and the receipt and I noticed what he had claimed was on the packaging was no where to be found. I was then called a liar and he claimed it was on EVERY package Meguiar's sells.

    I wanted to know what, if anything, I can do to get the product I paid for without getting a ****** attitude from a sales rep. I'm not going to let this one bad experience ( and one prior ) ruin my opinion of Meguiar's car care products as long as the problem can be resolved and in a more professional manor then the way I was talked to on the phone.

    Just to clarify, I took photos of both the bottle and the package it came in so I do not look like a liar and the phone rep can see that I am indeed telling the truth on what exactly the package has stamped on it, not that it should matter since I have owned the product for less then 2 hours.

    I apologize for blurryness of the back side of the box, but you can still make out the words and I figured I wasted enough time taking photos of the product already. If I need to re-take the photo to get a replacement product, I will.

    Again, thanks for your time and I don't mean to be rude but I am pretty aggravated with this whole situation.

        Our Customer Care department has a history of providing nothing less than top notch customer care, this is documented all over this forum, so your experience would be the exception, not the rule.

        We would like to do whatever it takes to make you happy including a full refund or shipping you a replacement bottle of known good product free of charge, just send me you shipping address and we'll process the order ASAP

          Strange! I have heard of stuff like that happening when people order stuff online during the winter, so they all just wait till spring to order stuff. With that in mind, I have no doubt that WalMart had received some products that received abuse during that time, though I can't point fingers.

          I'm sure one of the Mikes will chime in and help you.

          Just a sidebit of information, but MOST of the time, the people you call on the phone are not actually employed by the company you are calling for as usually you are calling a call center which has been hired to take on the job of phone support/sales. I am not sure if that is the case with Meguiar's or not, but just something to keep in mind in the future when calling other companies. If you get bad help on the phone, usually that doesn't mean it's the company itself, rather just a bad call center, in which case you can report that to the company.

          Not saying that to relate in any way to Meguiar's, but just some helpful advice for the future coming from someone who use to work in a call center.


          EDIT: Yeah I'm sure Meguiar's has its own call center. Guy might of just had a bad day and instead of leaving it at the door, just went on the phone. If ever in doubt of Meguiar's customer support, 'the Mikes' are always here to save the day!

              I appreciate the quick response, I was reading a few other threads on the forum and I was surprised to see the excellent online customer service. I don't like arguing and that's exactly what the person on the phone wanted to do. I would prefer a replacement bottle be sent, since I use this stuff all the time and I have only had one other bottle go bad but I had the reciept and was able to exchange it for another. Is there a way I can pay the difference and get the Tech 2.0 wax instead? I didn't see that one on the shelf when I picked up this one.

              Again, thanks for your time and attempting to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

                          This is more the norm of how customer service handles things. Sorry to hear of your mishap. Glad to hear it is being positively rectified. Way to go Meguiars.
