  • Can I get swirl marks and water spot by hand

Hi I have waxed my car all my life but I have only used a couple of Meguiars products so I don't much about your product line.

My wife's has a dark metallic blue Mercedes C-class. The paint has swirl marks and waters spots all over and I would really like to take it to a professional place and get it detailed. The problem is that in my city ( live in Honduras) there is not a single detail shop, most Car Washes will just sand it and use some power tool with a cheap wax and I am afraid they will just make the problem worse.

So my question is, can I, using a combination of your products, get rid of this swirls and spots by hand? I found in a local Napa shop a couple of meguiars products and I was thinking of getting a bottle of Ultimate Compound and then top it of with Class CarnaubaPlus Liquid Wax.

Is this a good combination and will they remove most marks? Thanks.

Absolutely you can work by hand and remove swirls and water spots. While it may take more time that a machine it can be done.

I suggest ultimate compound followed by ultimate polish then finally your choice of wax.

If you were prepared to take it to a detailer, you could pick up a DA polisher for about the same or less money and do it yourself!

But yeah, it's certainly possible by hand. It will just take more time and effort. Perhaps you can do it a bit at a time.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Exactly, Ultimate Compound, SwirlX and Ultimate Polish are consumer level products that work well for both machine and hand application. By hand, you'll need a couple of foam applicators, microfiber towels, LOTS OF TIME and elbow grease. Set aside at least a day to get optimum results. It will be tiring, so be prepared.

These statements are pretty much spot on. For the price of one halfway decent "professional" detailing job you can pick up a good quality DA buffer and do the job yourself. And you'll have the buffer for many, many years of additional service without any additional cash outlay.

While it is certainly possible to do the work by hand, it is an awful lot of work - tedious and tiring to be sure. Of course, there is no rule that says you have to do the entire car in one day, so if you can only tackle the hood and a fender one day and a bit more a few days later, so be it. But you really should investigate getting a decent DA buffer, like our G110v2, to reduce time and increase results.
