"first time" user I own a Mazda 6 luxury 2005 black I washed the car first, dried it off then started on the "Ultimate Compound color & clarity restorer". I applied on hand applicator pad "Meguiar's hand applicator pad" I done is on a circular rotation I done it to the whole car, I used a cloth to get the ultimate compound off when it was dried. I didn't see any rotation marks but when I took it out and gave it a wash when it dried, then it started to show i didn't have it before i started this, it pretty much all over the car. can someone help me out? can I undo the damage caused on the paint job? should i try using it again? or did i apply to much of it or to less? and how bad did I screw up my car.

Re: failed at using Ultimate compound have alot of rotation marks all over the car
Hi Eric, welcome to Meguiar's Online. Some folks will be along to give you some definitive answers regarding your difficulties.
Before they get here, I have some suggested reading and viewing. If you've already seen and read these, sorry for the duplication. The information will emphasize a couple of points. Make sure the car is clean and smooth, work in a small test area to establish a successful process, apply a uniform pressure on your applicator and don't allow Ultimate Compound to dry before removing.
Ultimate Compound is used successfully at many, if not all, of the Saurday classes. View the photos and descriptions from the classes to see what I mean. Your paint may also be considered delicate, making it sensitive to speed, pressure, applicator and product used.
Review this information and someone will be along shortly to offer some advise.

You said that you let the Ultimate Compound dry before wiping? I wonder if that could be the problem. The reason I question myself is because I would think you would have noticed the rotation marks right after you wiped it off, not just after you washed it. What I would do is try a small area, like 1' x 1', work the Ultimate Compound until it starts to show signs of drying, then wipe off immediately. See if that gets rid of the rotation marks. See what other people have to say on here.Always searching for the best....Keep it country!

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
Ultimate compound needs to be wiped off before it dries.Do it in small sections like 1/4 hood at the time. About 2 sq ft. Wipe off and continue. Inspect the hood for scratches and swirls. If you still have problems follow up same procedure with Ultimate Polish. Black shows more imperfections then any other color. I have a black car, been there and done that.

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
For me, it could be 2 things. Either your paint is very soft (need to follow up with a finishing polish such as ultimate polish) or your pad was contaminated. Are the circular marks uniform or just one line? If it's uniform then it's because you have soft paint. If you just have a line of circular motions then it's from a contaminant in your applicator pad.
Also, please follow the advice of the above users... Don't let this stuff dry. Work a small section at a time. It's not a wax2011 Car Crazy Showcase SEMA Team

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
As others have pointed out, Ultimate Compound should not be allowed to dry on the surface but rather should be applied to small areas at a time, worked in thoroughly, and then the residue wiped off before it dries. We can imagine that you must have struggled a bit to wipe it off if you applied it to the entire car and then removed it after it had dried.
Mazdas are prone to having fairly delicate paint. Not all do, but we've seen plenty that do. You might want to read through The Challenge of Delicate Paint for some pointers on dealing with soft/delicate paint. We understand that the finish doesn't look particularly nice at the moment, but rest assured you've done no serious or irreparable damage to the paint. Getting back to what you desire may take a bit of work, but that article linked to above should help you out.Michael Stoops

For the record, we've deleted your duplicate post on this topic, although we did move David's response into this thread prior to doing so. No need to ask the same question in multiple threads, especially late on a Sunday nightMichael Stoops

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
No, you haven't done any serious damage to the car. In fact, when we do buffer demos, like we'll be doing at the Barrett-Jackson Auctions in Scottsdale, AZ next week, we intentionally mess up the appearance of the paint with a competitors old school rubbing compound and then remove the defects with Ultimate Compound. But the damage that is there was, indeed, most likely done by improper use of the product. Keep in mind, though, that you can make paint look really, really horrible without doing anything significant as far as damage goes. A whole bunch of very fine defects that are densely packed together still aren't very deep, meaning correction of those defects isn't all that hard to do. But it sure looks horrible!!
But we'll go back to the very real possibility that your Mazda could have fairly delicate paint. You'll want to stay away from a cotton terry cloth towel for an applicator as that material, regardless of liquid used, can put a lot of fine scratches into the paint. Your best bet is to use a soft foam wax applicator pad, and start out with only moderate pressure. Work in a circular pattern for several seconds or until the product appears to be thinning out on the surface, then wipe off the residue before it dries. Do a test spot on the bonnet first, then inspect your progress in good lighting, pulling the car out into direct sunlight if need be. You should be making an improvement in the appearance of the finish. If you see haze as shown in the link we provided (The Challenge of Delicate Paint) then you may need to adjust your process and/or product choice according to the tips given in that article.
Some pictures really would be helpful here, too.Michael Stoops

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
the swirl marks are all gone but it left holograms marks "looks like 3D picture when you moves it moves with you, they are the shape of the pad" all over the car? You cant see it when it's in the shade but when your in sunlight it pops right at you. I'm wondering if over time form washing it would all come out? I used the UC by hand.

Re: rotation marks left behide when using untimate compound colour & clarity restorer
Hello my friend how are you?
Im from sydney as well and i kinda did the same thing as you though i used a less aggressive product the ultimate polish on my 2011 wrx.
I had some very bad swirl marks from bad car wash places so i did abit by my hands and have the same experience as you now on half of the car.
Now i have to stop and found a professional buffing specialist in western sydney www.paintcorrections.com he is the best their is and charges abit but if you see the repairs he does and doesnt leave a single buff mark behind.
I hope this helps though im interested to know what car you have.
Enjoy.
