what would be a good strong wet dry vac without breaking the bank... how many hp would a shopvac need in order to get by most interior detail jobs including shampooing.. sorry dont mean to thread jack but figured id ask

Hi SL,if it's just for your car there are plenty to choose from.I had a hoover aqua vac for years.When i came here,i had difficulty getting the proper anti foaming detergent. i went to a store and the salesman said it was anti foaming....... "Anti foaming my........!"

After 5 mins of use it looked like something out of a comedy. I stripped the motor in order to repair it,but it was far gone....

"I could kill that guy!"

I'm using my brush more and that seems to be working

Here's the set up I'm using:
6 hp Craftsman vac w/huge crevice tool
Small carpet brush
Duster with interior brush
moist towel

I find that using a brush to help loosen up dirt, debri, etc before vacuuming helps a lot.

As far as what HP to use, I read here and in other forums that to tackle most jobs (vacuum, poormans extraction, etc) a 5HP should be minimum.

My vac is 3.5 and so far so good but I have not had any serious vacuum work.

When you guys talk about the brush to get stains loose what kind of brush do you use?

A small one with metal bristles or plastic ones?

I have a shoe size nylon carpet brush that I use exclusively to loosen dirt and debri before I vacuum but it is not as effective for small stains/spots. I tried using some used tooth brushes but they did not seem to help.

If you have lots of small stones it is best to use the naked end of the hose first then beat the carpet with your fist to bring up the smaller ,deeper dirt then use the crevice tool held at an angle to vacuum up the rest.

For pet hair: A strong vacuum in one hand and the other hand is wearing a cheap latex glove. Rub your latex hand over the carpet or seats and you will be gathering the hair for the vacuum to collect.

Anyone have any tips on vacuuming pet fur?

I don't let any cats in my cat but it comes off of my shirts and it's hard to remove in the carpet...

I bought a pet hair brush from ADS for like 6 bucks. before that, something that worked really well for me was one of those stick lint rollers that you tear off as they get dirty.
