Okay, so I got my car painted (roof, mirror covers, rear bumper) about a a week ago (9 days), and the guy did a pretty bad job. My main issue though is some pretty heavy contaminants in the clear coat. It's laden with bits of sand that I'm desperate to remove by Saturday (the 23rd of April) for a car show. It doesn't have to be perfect, but since I went through the trouble of having it painted, I'd like to try to fix it a bit.
I have the Porter Cable DA, which I could do some damp sanding with, but would I be okay to do that and be able to remove the sanding scratches out? I don't even want to remove all the orange peel, just get some/most of the contaminants out so it looks mostly like the rest of the car (which is 14 years old, 1997 Jaguar Xj6L).
Some really light damp sanding with 3000 grit? Followed by Ultimate Compound, then SwirlX (or should I get a 205/105 combo?), then 7 Show Car Glaze (no wax because apparently you're supposed to wait a month or so with fresh paint). That's what I'd like to get done for the car show. Do you guys think it at all possible some/any of the contaminants would come out if I clayed the surface?
I'm really worried about wet-sanding the car. I'd take it somewhere and have it done, but the shop that I trust (not the place that ruined the paint) can't wet-sand the contaminants out until a week after my car show.
