  • Paint Chip / Peeling help

I noticed my fender has some paint peelage. I think it's just the clear coat. Two years ago, the body shop had to fade/blend the paint on the fender to match the new bumper they had painted. I dont know how the procedure to blending the fender but i'm wondering if it was a bad job on their part that cause this or something else.

Over the summer, somebody hit this fender and there's a huge dent (the size of my open hand). I pulled some of it out but it's still noticble at the right angle and if youre looking for it.

I checked the other fender and there is no sign of the peeling

The yellow circle is where the dent is (no paint loss or transfer), where i was hit. The red circle is the paint peeling.

How do i fix this so it doesnt peel more. Can i do this?:
Wet Sand, then touch up paint, then wet sand to level?

Looks like shotty work by the body shop if you ask me.

I would go there first and see if they will warranty the work.

If not I *think* your best bet would be to try and seal that with a "bead" of touchup paint to hold it from spreading. It might be an uphill battle though...

      Thx for the reply

Do you think they sprayed that far from the bumper? I dont know whats involved in the blending/fade process. They claimed they removed the fenders while they blend them

Do you think the fender collision could have cause the fender to rub against that weather stripping and eventually chip/peel it?

Looks like peeling due to incomplete prep or cleaning of the paint before repaint.

They likely clear coated from bumper to edge of the door jamb.

I notice a slight area where when masked the paint lifted near the trim.

I doubt the little dent caused the peel.

Details like getting close to trim with sanding or paint cleaning is common.

That's the short of it. (i think)

So you dont think they removed the fender to repaint it? Just masked it?

If i leave it as it is, would it cause clearcoat failure or any other type of damage later on down the road? The chipped part is about a centimeter long.

I would give the shop the chance to atleast look at it to see if they step up to the plate. It is without a dought their or the paint mfg's issue and should be covered.

I stopped by. He said they'll take care of it. Just waiting for them to get their loaner car back so i can get it.

Should they repaint the whole fender? What should i ask to make sure they do the correct procedures? I'm worried about clear coat failure later on down the road. I want my car to last forever lol
