Ok, first post here so hello guys! Hoping somebody can help me with some advice on the system and the finish I have been left with after using it on my 2002 Nurburgring blue Honda S2000. (This colour is exactly the same as the Suzuka blue you have in the States).
I am new to detailing properly - this being my first proper go with a machine etc, and I was using a DAS-6 pro polisher. I'll start by saying my car looks better now than it ever has, and I am pretty happy with the results - the paint looks a million times better than before I started and feels gloriously silky to touch. However, I'm a perfectionist, and although I know this will take me time to learn, I really wanted to say I was 100% over the moon with how it's turned out rather than just pretty happy haha. I know it can look better - I have quite a few areas where it looks like I have some light swirl marks and some light marring.
I know that Honda paint is supposed to be notoriously soft, but I'm stuck at the point of wondering whether the swirls on the car which I can see under certain lighting conditions are remaining marks which I failed to remove with the D300, or if they are actually marks I have put into the paint WITH the D300, by being too aggressive and applying too much pressure with it. Some areas are much better than others. I'm not sure if these are areas that were not so badly marked before, or if they're areas where I just got lucky! If I'm honest thinking back I think I did start quite gently in terms of pressure where I was being cautious, and actually, I think these areas are the areas which look best. But it seems as I went on, the areas seem to be worse.
I cleaned the pad well as I went around after every 2x2 section or so, but could it be that the pad having been used more becomes either 1. more abrasive and makes these small marks, or 2. becomes less effective at removing the defects already present? Maybe neither of those sound likely, I don't know - as I say, I'm new to this but these are just questions that are coming to my mind.
And so now, where do you think is best for me to go from here? Could it be (as now I seem to have read on some forums regarding softer paint) that I should have used the D302 in between the 300 & 301, or maybe even the D302 (or some other polish even!) and then a separate wax/sealant as my LSP? And if so, could I now just re-wash and apply the D302 and further correct the defects, or do I need to wait for some time or clay again or do something else to remove the layer of D301 before I can proceed?
If you have any experience with these cars in particular that would be great.. I really want to try and get every last swirl (within reason!) out of this paint, as it's a long old process and getting it under the street lights lay night and seeing quite a lot of marks still, even though they were much much improved, was still super disappointing! I used a 300lm LED light to spot for marks on the dull, cloudy U.K. day I did it yesterday, and yes I could see a few defects here and there, but under a street light at night, wow, there were much more than I thought!
Really appreciate any advice / answers to my questions and being pointed in the right direction to getting this finished nicely.
Thank you!!!
Matt
