  • Pneumatic D/A Polisher/Recommendation for an electric.

I finally got an opportunity to try my pneumatic DA with the Meguiar's backing plate, bonnets, products. It seems the unit, while a quality product, does not have the power needed. After things warmed up it also started spitting water everywhere. I turned my air drier on and that helped but it is clear this polisher won't meet the needs.

So I'm now in the market for an electric unit and need a recommendation.

I am not a professional detailer and have no designs on becoming a pro. I'm am a DIY'er who takes pride in doing things correctly with the right products, the right tools and the correct technique/process. I hate poor quality tools but realize there is adequate quality available without selling the farm.

Could someone provide suggestions/recommendations on a DA that would fit my use model?

    Thanks.

Megiar's has their new MT300 DA. You can find the older version the G110 V2 on ebay as it's been discontinued. There are quite a few options for DA's. Porter Cable, Griots Garage, Rupes, Flex and even Harbor Freight has one.

You don't have to be a pro to use any of these tools. A DIYer can use them just fine. The HF one is budget friendly. The MT300 is more comfortable (vibration and ergonomics) and has enough power to get the job done than the HF and PC7424XP.

Thanks Guz. I found a recon PC7424XP that fits the budget. PC has a good rep regarding their power tools. I have several others - woodworking, etc. I read where the HF unit vibrates. I hope the PC isn't as bad.

I have a PC and my brother has the HF. The HF vibrates a tad more and is a tad louder. After purchasing the MT300 I cringe going back to using one of those. The reason being is that I would get fatigue in my hands and a tingling sensation in my fingers from the vibration of the machine. I don't get that with the MT300.

I also recommend the Porter Cable. The part numbers can vary based on packaging, so don't be confused by that, as they all seem to be the same PC7424XP. Mine was boxed as a 7436SP with a foam pad and backing plate, but the actual machine is exactly the same polisher as the 7424XP. I use a Meguiar's plate and DAMF pads.
