Have you tried it out at 6am?

Sure DA's make a bit of noise, but I don't think it would be loud enough to wake up your neighbors..

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

      How about during early evenings?
And yea...DAs are not too loud...unless you are working near their bedroom window?

Trust me, it will be loud enough to bother someone I'm one of those people, ironically. I suggest you find some deep shade somewhere, say a park, church/school area, a friend's house, industrial park, and do one section at a time. Sometimes you can do it in car wash areas, a park pavillion, abandoned gas station, etc. You can even use the car for power with a plug in converter. Plan ahead with supplies, beverages, etc.

You could get a portable canopy like mobile detailers use. Then you could polish any time you wanted.

I was reading this because I will have a similar problem in the coming months. We are moving to a condo because we just can't do the yard work any longer but my problem was a little different. Parking is underground so shade won't be a problem, but power for the DA will be. I had never thought about a power converter (duh on my part ) But along this same subject, has another ever seen a cordless DA that worked very well? The only thing I have seen are those cheap things nobody wants.

If you're just spreading wax, then those cordless machines should be ok. If you want to do any correction, then I doubt they will be powerful enough. I'd be trying to run a long extension lead from somewhere..

Ooh, I'm jealous of that cool shade situation! That is my biggest problem, actually.

I think a converter is fine for relatively short periods, that is, I wouldn't run the DA for 8 hours and then expect a fresh battery, and the converter will get a bit hot. Mine was like $10 from Radio Shack in 2006 and still works fine. Otherwise, a 250ft extension cord might be easier, like say dropped out of your window I wouldn't use a cordless, and you'd still have to plug in to recharge, anyway.

Regarding the sound, my Porter Cable DA is loud enough to annoy someone like myself at odd hours, particularly with the stopping and starting. I'm usually doing this stuff in the late afternoon, so the noise from the DA or blower is forgivable at that time, but I really need more deep shade, hence all my suggestions.

Re: i have problem with the neighbors

Well, good news. We did another walk through the other day and I did find power in the parking area! I will invest in a good, heavy extension cord and I should be all set. We are moving Oct. 15th. It's going to be great having a climate controlled parking area and place to work. Now that I know I have power, I will have to order the new polisher. I see a Rupes in my future!

                          Sweet!
Now you just have to sort out some good lighting...

I have a couple of those standing work lights with two halogen fixtures on each stand. I figure that should give me plenty of light. They also have surprisingly good lighting in the parking area....better than my current garage.
