Re: Stubborn scratches, pad selection, etc

I use foam pads for light corrections and polishing and waxing sometimes. I only use yellow pad with compound, and black with polish and wax. 1-2 black pads to polish, 1-2 black pads for wax exclusively. I don;t touch burg. colored pad. I have extremely hard paint and the DA microfiber system was the answer. You can use the system with D300 (intended compound) and D301 (intended polish/wax). But I have found even better results when using M101 alone or M105/D300 combo to cut down the dusting. Scratches that the yellow pads wouldn;t touch in 100 passes were leveled with few passes of DAMF and M101. But make sure to use DAMF system correctly. It is easy to over use product and not use a brush between passes, but your results will be compromised.

Pictures would help, and even with DAMF not all surface scratches come out.

IMHO, anytime you us a compound you will add scratches and it will require a operation to remove the scratches you add. Slow movements and working small areas gives you more working time before the product starts to dry. Marking the backing plate was a good thing as I do the same. Applying pressure should never stop the D/A ( you loose one of the actions of the machine and decrease the effectiveness of the process, rotation is the first action to stop when applying too much pressure). If you feel that you have done the above you need to change one of two things, the pad or the product.

DAMF means the Microfiber Dual Action Pads.

A compound may or may not cause some marring, always good to check your work incase it did. The burgundy pad is also known to cause marring at times, so could happen.

So I decided to give M105 a go with the DA (yellow pad) topping it off with M205 (black pad). Amazing results to say the least.

The shine is almost the same as UC but the M105 cut more through RIDS, swirls and to my surprise it evened out some orange peel on the paint.

Here's a shot of the result in a Mercedes 420SE.
