Re: Help - First time DA user and may have, um, issues
Claying only needs to be done on an as needed basis. Claying today and following up with proper washing and maintenance could mean you don't have to clay again for a year, even though you wax every 3 months or so. But exposure is everything here, so even if you clay today you could encounter something nasty in your travels and discover that claying is needed again in a few weeks. There is no set time frame for claying.
As an example, imagine you spent all weekend detailing your car to perfection. Monday turns out to be a windy day, and you stop at a light with the blowing at you from your right side. You look to the right and to your horror you see that you're next to a gas station, and someone is spray painting that huge white propane tank that you've visited to fill the 5 gallon tank for your BBQ. The horror is the wind is blowing the overspray of that white paint onto your pristine detailed baby! Guess what? You get to clay again tonight.
Every time you wash your car you should quickly evaluate the surface both visually and by touching it. If it feels glassy smooth, there's no need to clay, if you plan on waxing that day. If you feel a little bump here or there you're probably fine too, unless you demand 100% total and absolute perfection.
