G110 support after warranty?

So I decided to follow the steps from this http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33868
It's clear to say that the brushes are the culprit? well atleast for me. From the pics I took, it seems that the brushes wear out... pretty quick! What is Meguiar's take on providing replacement brushes? Especially after the warranty is expired.
After cleaning the carbon build up, it worked for awhile but the brushes wore out and lost contact w/ the armature assembly. Are these (brushes) the same as the g100/pc?

Looking in from the g110... notice only 1 of the brushes visible. the other one wore out and does not make any more contact w/ the armature assbly.

I haven't seen any replacement parts for the G110, but if you have a hardware store such as a mom and pop Ace Hardware or the such, take the brush with you and compare them to brushes in stock. They just may have a gem in one of those cardboard pull outs they have in those stores.

Also make sure to use the correct extension cord with your G110. I use a 12ga cord for all my power tools and haven't had a problem yet! My cheapo Harbor Freight Rotary brushes are wearing evenly.

nappers, hey thanks for the scoop on brushes @ ace's. as far as extension cords go, i've always used a 12g 25ft extension cord (husky red/black cord), but what does the guage have to do w/ wearing out the brushes?

Here in San Diego, we have a DeWalt-Porter-Cable-Delta outlet store that stocks brushes for the PC's and deWalt rotaries. Give them a call and see if they can help you out.

Not positive but a smaller gauge cord could wear out the brushes.....not sure???

My dad who is an electrician says along with his construction buddies to not use a small cord with your power tools!

Well when you speak of small, are you referring to the short 25ft length of his cord, or the gauge of his cord (12)?

This discussion reminded me to purchase a proper extension cord to prolong the life of my G110, and I would like to know exactly what I need . I currently use a 50ft run-of-the-mill orange outdoors extension cord and I have no idea if that is ideal...

So if/when I go to the store to purchase a new 50ft cord, what exactly should I be looking for on the label and packaging? (Mind you, I don't know a single thing about electricity) Sorry for the tangent, btw .

talking size of wire in extension cord. I've seen people use those multi ended little cords for power tools and you can hear them bog down and get really hot.

I use a 12ga (gauge) extension cord. I think my cord is 150'. I wouldn't go smaller than 12ga in my opinion. They aren't cheap but once you buy one, then you don't need another one for quite some time!

Thanks . I'll search ebay for an appropriate length in 10 or 8 gauge for my G110. I was at the hardware stores yesterday, and retail prices sure hurt the wallet especially once you know about internet vendors .

12ga should be fine and set you back 40-50 bucks at hardware stores such as lowes, home depot, your local Ace, I think I bought mine at Walmart....

A good tip from Mark Kleis is when you use your machine and the cord is warm or worse, hot to the touch, then it's time to move up!

I haven't had problems with my 12ga cord.

I had the same thing happen with (2) G110 units. I ordered a PC7424XP while I was waiting for the replacement, this time I read the directions. And it specificaly calls for a 14 guage or greater (lower number) for 25 ft or less and if you run a 50 ft then 12 guage or greater. I will try to scan the instructions tonight and post them.

It has to do with the voltage drop as the cord length increases. I'm not an electrican but the irregularity of the voltage casues the brushes to burn??? Like I said not an electrician.

I didn't realize this until I got the PC directions. Get the thickest cord 12 guage or bigger and you will be fine.

That is correct.

Think of it like a shotgun, the bigger the gun the lower the number. IE 12 guage packs a bigger punch than 20 ga. A 4 ga would be like an elephant gun.

I dont think the cord is such an issue with a tool like the G110 which draws 4.2 amps

Heres some thought. Some houses are wired with 14 gauge which is good for 15 amps, others have 12 gauge which is good for 20 amps. Check your breaker box, if the circuit you are using the G110 has a 15 amp breaker, you are probably using a #14 wire. Running a #12 extension cord is like using a 1" pipe to feed a 3" pipe. The resistance has already been put in place.

And voltage drop, 25 -50 feet is not that big of a deal. I can tell you I have at least a 100 foot run from my panel, to my garage outlet. That includes up and down, turns etc. Another 25 -50 feet is not an issue. Voltage drop is usually more of an issue in large run of 100,200,300 feet such as parking lot lights etc.

I am not an electrician, but my BIL is and I have a bit of experience in wiring, panels, etc
