So I'm detailing a black Lexus IS 350 and I know Japanese cars are known for having soft paint. It has pretty bad swirls so I go to work with m80 on a polishing pad speed 5 on the G110. I do a test spot and pull it in the sun and there are holograms, some swirls are gone too. I found this strange to do that and started wondering if there was something wrong with my process since it happened on the honda fit and this normally doesn't happen. My pad I was using is pretty used and has gone through a lot so I took out a brand new fresh pad and did another test spot. Same results. I put some m66 over it and it took out the holograms so I guess I will just follow it with that.
However there were still swirls and after 2 m80 passes I wanted to try something more aggressive. I went to m83. Did a test spot, and there were definitely less swirls but there was barely any holograms. The m80 holograms were much much worse. How does this even make sense? Could I have a bad bottle of m80, I did shake it up. Should I do the car with m83 and then follow with 66 rather than 80 then 66?
On top of things my G110 died randomly. It started slowing down and speeding up and now can't stay at a steady speed. I have another one here though so I can still finish the job. The paint is just perplexing me.
