I was debating about getting the DA for my car and finally gave in. Figured that for the cost of one buff job at the local car wash I could buy everything and do the work myself.
Used the standard stuff as recommended for a car with swirl marks. Took about three hours and the car is 100% better. I will probably do another detailing session since there are a couple of spots that need more work.
Washed the car at local self serve on a Sunday. No one there so I could keep the car in the bay and stay in the shade. I live in an apartment with no hose or electricity (poor me). So I also had to get an inverter. Looked kind of wierd but worked perfectly.
Some things that stand out:
1. The recommendation to tape the car is correct. Saves time, mistakes and cleanup in the long run.
2. Made the fatal error of picking up the buffer before it stopped. Thousands of tiny specks all over the car inside and out. Came off OK but I will never make that mistake again.
3. Inverter worked liked a charm, thanks EBAY...
4. Auto Detailing Supplies is awsome, great prices and quick delivery.
5. As time went on I slowed my buffer movement and the results got better.
6. Applying wax was very easy and goes on so thin that it wipes off by hand quickly.
7. I cleaned the buffer pad with water (I know its not recommended) but it was so caked up I gave in. Cleaned to like new. If the backing comes off eventually I will just buy a new pad. Wax pad was another story since water does nothing. I just squeezed out the excess wax (a lot).
8. Next time I may try and buff at night in a parking lot near my house under some strong hallogen lights. This would avoid a hot day. You also seem to notice surface imperfections more as long as the lights are strong.
