Thats a great Idea! Its even better than your not doing this for sheer profit, your a good man!

You might want to ask for like a $50 Insurance deposit incase the rentee decides to run off with the DA or breaks it.

If you'd only rent to me, in Singapore ....

Am really thinking of buying one, but am afraid that it'll not work out for me. Need to find one to try out first... but where?

What a great idea. Please let me know where I can sign up.
I have often thought about purchasing one but haven't
because I was not sure if I would like it.

Great idea Joe. I've done things like this for the MINI community. One thing you will want to be aware of is that you will have to keep track of where each rented PC is, and when they are due to return.

It's easier to receive an item from UPS/FedEx than gathering it up and finding the nearest place to ship it off. So if the item gets rented for 7 days, is it due back on the 8th?

Depending on where they are, it might take 5 days to ship it back--nobody will pay for overnight shipping. How will you know its really on its way back? A tracking number can be secured online, but if the item hasn't been dropped off, there is still no guarantee.

Maybe you can provide a shipping label that gets billed back to the renter so that they don't have excuses about not returning the unit. Just the same, will you bill for late returns?

You may find that renting it out is just too much trouble, and limit only to rentals in SoCal where people can drive to you.

            Just my 2cents

              Great idea.

You can do it easily through paypal. Charge cost price of the PC and when its returned to you, and you verify its working order you just refund the amount back minus shipping and rental fees. This way your covered for the PC if its not returned or returned deffective.

                Hi,

You should charge variable rates depending on the renter. What I mean is that someone who rents it two weeks should pay less per day than someone who rents it for one. You should charge roughly $5 per day; I think. $6 for someone who wants it for a short period of time and possibly as low as $4 for someone who wants it a long time.

As for pads and product, it may be a good idea to send 2 to 4 pads becuase people without the PC aren't going to have pads. You should have the option to buy or rent pads pads from you. If they buy them, just sell them at the price you get them. You are kind of stuck recomending pads.

Make it an option to buy or rent the pads. However, it becomes problamatic if the pads are returned with dirt/grit on them. Obviously, you don't want to send out pads that will mar the finish, so I don't know what to do. I think it would be best to put them in small plastic boxes marked with the product used on them. Include a short note saying something like "Please use only #80 on this pad."

Here is how to really sweeten the deal:

Get someone to video you doing a wash, clay, then using the PC to use a Paint Cleaner, Polish, and Wax.

Build a little tutorial. Put it in the DVD format then go out and buy the packages of DVD Writable Media such as DVD+R or DVD-R. You can get a 50 pack for $15 to $20. Get a 16x DVD burner and burn each in less than 4 minutes/ Disc. Now, you can include an awsome tutorial with the package. Put them in the paper CD envelopes that are sold 100 for $10.

Best of all, let them keep the tutorial. It costs you 40 Cents plus the paper sleve 10 cents. Your total price to include the video is 50 cents.

You should also charge the price of the Unit as the deposit. Let them know that the base rental price is donated, but pads and the video and shipping are not because you do not want to loose money renting....

The video would be good for the following reasons:
                1. People will pay to see you detail
                2. They get to keep it
                3. It costs you 50 Cents per disc
                4. You can train them to get the very best results, so you don't have anyone dissappointed
                5. You can talk about the necessity of not having any dirt or grime that will mar the finish. This will also help you not recieve dirty pads back.

                Good Luck

I know this is almost a 10 year old thread, but I thought I would resurrect it, through this post, because I like the idea. And I found the thread because it's what I wanted to do. Rent a polisher.

So, anyone know where you could do this in Orange County, California?

You can pick up a Harbor Freight for around $50. All you would need is a better backing plate and pads.
