DA Polisher Product questions.

I've been spending the majority of the morning browsing the many other forums not only on this website but also others on the use of the DA G100. Now, after last evening, I've come to the conclusion that s much as I clean cars, I need to invest in a G100. And I figured that with the Christmas specials, now might be a good time to invest in 1.

How are the deals from ADS? I noticed the G100 and NXT special on the Meguiar's homepage, but I already own 90% of those NXT products and don't need them. So I thought that one of the deals from ADS would be sufficient. I was looking at option #2.

Now my questions (and I apologize if they are stupid, I'm a newbie to using a machine to apply product):

1) How many backing plates do you need? One per product, or just one to fit to the DA?

2) How many pads would I need to purchase? The deal comes with 2 W8006 Foam polishing pad, 1 W9006 Foam Finishing pad, 1 X4003 Microfiber bonnet.

3) What kind of products would I need? Seems that the professional line is the best but fairly expensive. I currently own all three steps of the DACP, NXT wax, Gold Class wax.

I'm looking to remove some minor swirls from my show Civic's hood that are not deep. I have successfully removed a little bit by hand but it's not the job I'm looking for. As far as my Civic, I'm looking for that show room look for when I take it to shows (color is red). It isn't driven so it isn't subjected to daily driving, weater, elements, etc. However, I do get it out fairly often in the summer. As far as the other vehicles, they are daily drivers (silver mazda 3, silver mazda tribute suv, and green jeep cheroke).

I apologize for making this so long, but I want to see what all I would need for my detailing activities. I'd also like to use the G100 to review some severe swirls from my mom and brothers cars once I become familiar with the G100.

Well, ADS seems to always be pretty reasonable, and a little cheaper than Meguiars.com. I do believe they are a bit backordered at the moment.

As for other questions, lets see what I an help with:

1. One backing plate for the G-100 should be fine, though you can always have a spare.

2. You need to have 1 pad per product. I cant tell how many products you plan to use, but at least one for each. Plus spares. It is #8006 for cleaners, and #9006 for polishes/waxes.

One thisn I will mention, like MF towels, you will also want 1 bonnet per product if you plan to remove that way. Get a #7006 pad as backing for the bonnets. (A clean pad must be used under the bonnet, and the #7006 works good under a bonnet. DO NOT USE IT DIRECTLY ON PAINT.)

3. If you cars are in good shape, I can recomend two products easily. #80 and #21. Those 2 will keep a car looking good for a long time. You can add a pure polish like #7 if you want.

The Nxt and Gold Class waxes can be used with a G-100. I ma not sure what you mean by all 3 steps of DACP... maybe you mean DC System. Those can be used with the G-100 as well, though I think #80 might give better cleaning/polishng results.

Yes, sorry I did mean the DC system. As I'm sucha newbie to the professional line, would you mind spelling out the products as compared to the numbers? I don't know what products the numbers refer to yet!

Also, the DA doesn't cause any damage to paint correctly? I'd most likely practice on a spare hood of mine and my Jeep that isn't nearly as important as the others. And yes my cars are always kept as clean as can be, especially the hood!

which product would be good for minor to severe swirl removal with the DA?

Sure.

#80 Speed Glaze





This will be good for removing minor swirls, and covers both the cleaning, and the polishing step.


#21 Synthetic Sealant



This will be a good wax for when your others run out.


With those 2 products, you would just need a #8006 pad, and a #9006 pad. You can continue using MF towels to remove cleaners/polishes, and just the bonnet for #21/Nxt/Gold Class. Or even just keep using towels for that as well.

If you already have plenty of MF towels, just get the package#2. It already seems to have the #80 Speed Glaze in it, and you can finish up the wax you already have first.

touching on Murr1525's post.... #80 is a great place to start. Easy to use and works very well. Meguiars always says to start with the least aggressive.

You will find the PC is VERY easy to use... very gentle on the vehicles paint. If you feel more comfortable starting on your spare hood there is nothing wrong with that. For me it did take a little practice on knowing how long to work a certain product in... but that was before MOL, now just search around or ask and we will sure help you out! About the worst thing that can happen is if you don't work a product in long enough or to long with a PC, it won't hurt the paint but you won't get the best results possible/or a product may be hard to remove once it is applied.

I found #80 to be too dry for me, so I used #83 DACP. It was beautiful and I was able to wax right after. I opted to use some hand rubbed #81 pure polish before waxing though. You will love the results.

Do you guys think I'm going overboard? I wax, polish, and clean my cars all the time in the summer! Especially my honda (non daily driver and gets shown), I love to keep shining!! And it always takes forever to do 4 vehicles by hand!

I'm not a professional but wouldn't mind starting out with friends, family, and family friends for some extra change in the summer time!

Well let me know what you think, if I can delete anything, add something instead! Be reminded, I already own 2 GC bottles of wax, 1 bottle of NXT wax, and 3 DC steps! Plus, the NXT wax I can always purchase at the local hardware stores.

Certainly a good start with that #2 kit.

As far as your extras, the #2 is probably not needed, as it is meant more for use by rotary I believe.

The #21 is a good product, though it is similiar (some say better) than Nxt. I dont know if you are planning to layer the wax, or what, but sounds like you are getting a collection of wax there to try and use up. You could maybe let it wait a little, until your others run down. Up to you.

Even though working by machine, you will still want some applicator's (even coat, Hi-Tec) for those hard to reach/contoured areas.

I am not sure if you are going to remove by hand, or by machine, or both, but you may need a #7006 pad, and a couple more bonnets for machine use, or a few more towels for hand removal.

Some people use towels to remove cleaners/polishes, and then the bonnets for wax removal. This will work better with what you are ordering, though you will still find a need for a #7006 pad under the bonnets I think.

Would you recommend #83 for removing swirls?? I was only going to get some of the fine cut cleaner, as it was recommended by Rick over at ADS.

I already own plenty of even coat applicators, hi tech pads, MF towels, I bought all that stuff from Advanced Auto when it was 50% off.

This order is more for the DA and any products I would need for use with the DA. I'd most likely be removing the products by hand and by machine. I love the NXT wax that i currently have, but GC isn't one of my favorites. I'd probably use that just on my spare daily driven vehicles.

I was looking for a selection of products for the DA, including a good cleaner for some swirl marks, a polish, and then a wax.

Still lookin for some help with the products before I order. Never ordered this much in car care before!

Well, with your #2 kit, you are getting #80, which has mild abrasives, and will remoe light things, and should be what you use most often. Unless you go even milder, with #82.

#83 is sort of a medium strength cleaner, and most people here find it takes care of their swirls.

#2 has been re-formulated for easier use with a PC i think, but I still dont know if I would jump right into it. I mean, you could end up needing it if the cars are really swirled/scratched, etc, but I think I would try #83 first. You might find you dont need to go as strong as #2. Unless you want to keep it all together for saving shipping costs, I dont know how the price breaks down. Up to you. And you picked the small size, so it may be good for a friends car.

And you shouldnt find you need to use #83 more than once or twice a year after you fix up the paint (unless lots of family come calling for details). If so you are putting some bad swirls in some how.

Thanks Murr. i've crossed off the #2 on my list. What is a good product to use as a polish? I think I'm understanding the concept with the DA. Do you still clean the paint (as needed), polish the paint, and wax still?

Is #21 a polish?

So could you go #83 (when needed), #21, then NXT?

Well, both #83 and #80 are cleaner polishes, so they do contain enough polishing oils to keep your car looking good on their own.

If you want, you could add a polishing step, with a pure polish, like #81 by PC or DC#2 by hand.

#21 is only a wax.

Let me give a couple product orders, that may clear things up.

Heavy Cleaning:
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Clean - #83 for tough swirls
4. Clean - #80 if wanted to fine tune results
5. Polish - A pure polish, really will show up on dark colors.
6. Wax - 2 thin coats of #21.

Light/Normal Cleaning
1. Wash
2. Clay as needed
3. Clean - #80
4. Polish - A pure polish if wanted.
5. Wax - 2 Thin Coats of #21.

For a Friends Swirled Car Quick Detail:
1. Wash
2. Clay if wanted
3. Clean - #83
4. Wax - 1 or 2 Coats of #21.

So technically you could hit the vehicle with #83, then #21 or NXT?

But #83 will still remove swils while polishing?


Can the other consumer line products such as Gold Class, and DC still be applied with the DA even though its formulated to be applied by hand?
