  • This is driving me insane!!!! Streaks/Haze on glass

I'm using D120 Glass cleaner Concentrate and I can't seem to get a streak free window/windshield. For instance last night I cleaned the inside windshield because if was getting a little foggy. I spray D120 all over the windshield and take a microfiber towel and wipe it all off. Looks great, then when I get in it this morning to go to work I can see foggy streaks all over the place. Any special techniques as to applying and removing D120 streak free?

    Thanks,
    Jason.

Have you tried using Scott's glass cleaning towels? I use them a lot and really haven't had a problem with streaks. You can find them in your local auto parts store.

Sounds like you may be using too much.

I tend to use about 1 spray per half of windshield, usually onto my MF cloth.

        Another for using to much
I always use as little product as possible.
spray the towel once, clean the window and come back with another towel to polish it to a shine

Definitely use the two towel method that Mario mentioned. Spray product onto one towel, clean window, then buff dry with a clean dry towel. Designated window towels that are only used on windows are best too.

Windows though can be tricky. If you can do them in the shade while its dry (not humid or raining) and about 60-70 degrees then you'll find you have the best chances of streak free. At least that's what I've found works best. Not always ideal, but if you can.

MF towels seem horrible for windows, as I have the same problem. I heard there are dedicated window MF towels

Thanks guys I think I will start with the two towel method and get dedicated window towels. Can anyone recommend a good brand to get.

              Thanks again,

I really like using the waffle weave towels for windows. Definitely 2 towels that are used only for windows.

less is more when using glass cleaner /mf towels on glass...
1 or 2 spritz of D120 onto a cheapo mf towel, clean glass, buff dry with 2nd cheapo mf towel...always crystal clear
Drenching the window with any window cleaning solution always results in streaks.....so less IS more is the trick

Getting streak free windows is a pain, mine will look great until the sun shines just right. So I cheat and use a squeegee as much as possible.

Spray and squeegee, towel buff just the edges of what the squeegee won't get. And I'll agree with the two towel method, one with cleaner to soak up solution and clean/dry one for the final buff.

I just bought an 07 bmw z4 and was washing it and noticed afterward the smeary windshield so I got out the usual windex and papertowels.. it was no better afterwards.. probably worse. After doing a search on google, I was directed here and a variety of solutions were presented, most of which involved mild abrasive cleaning products. Being a practical and sort of impatient guy I mentioned this to my wife and she said the stuff I was describing sounded like what was under the kitchen sink that she uses for cleaning the ceramic cook top on our stove. The product is called ceramabrite (there are lots of different brands of this sort of stuff). I carefully tried it on a corner of the windshield, applying it with a wet sponge the way you apply it on a stove top. Worked great at removing what I figure was RainX. The previous owner had applied it to the inside and outside of all the windows of the car so it took all of about 10 minutes to get the smeary surfaces looking crystal clear again.

Well I purchased 4 microfiber waffel weave towels and apply the glass cleaner with one town and buff it out with a second one. Works perfectlly. No more smears or streaks. Just like waxing a car. Wax on Wax Off. Spray on Buff Off.

I feel your pain, every time i clean my car later that same day when the sun hits the windows at a certain angle it looks like i used vaseline to clean them!

Yep, foggy/smoky/streaky windows are a pet peeve of mine, too. I've tried EVERYTHING, and the only strategy that seems to keep it down to a roar is to use a Quik Detailer MF (like the one I'd been using on the paint) to clean, then a Quik Wax MF to buff/smear. I think it's creating a clear, but not necesarily clean, layer of waxy oils that prevent humidity exchange...or something??
