I have this unit and could only say that for the price it works very very well. It does take a little bit of time to heat up the water (20 minutes) but it does heat it up to 190-200 degrees and the suction is great. You can see the rinse water/crud being suctioned out of the carpet. Here is a picture of the Durrmaid and a before and after shot.

Andrew, I would love to have a DurrMaid. Here's the thing, though. If I had $650 to spend on an extractor, I sure as heck wouldn't have bought the LGM. There's a reason why I ended up with the LGM. Maybe down the road I'll be able to afford the DurrMaid. It's just not going to happen right now.

On a side note, I love the pictures from the thread on the van. You really showed off the capabilities of the DurrMaid.

Re: Bissell LGM - What a let down

I use one fairly regularly and it definitely picks up water - the pick up tank sure gets full and what it's full of sure is dirty, no doubt about it!

Having said that, I ONLY use it on floor mats and carpet and not on seats or other upholstery. The suction just doesn't seem all that incredible (it's definitely NOT a full blown extractor) so I'm worried that any water I would apply to my seats would soak into the foam padding under the fabric and I'd never get it out with this thing.

Also, I tend to spray a cleaner onto the carpets (APC, APC+, Quik Out, etc) and agitate it with a brush, then use the LGM just to spray clear rinse water on and pull that up. But again, only when I've got a surface with a firm backing. It has worked quite well on the carpeting in the house as well.

Seems like the thing would pay for itself pretty quick with those results!

If it didn't stick to your hand then you got a dud. I can put mine in a bowl of water and it will **** it dry it just a few seconds. You got a dud.

Re: Bissell LGM - What a let down

I tried a LGM that I got at BigLots and gave it away after one use.

I went back to my old way. I use a Bissell Pro heat as the washer and partial extractor. And after all the dirty, soapy water is out and I have repeatedly rinsed with hot, fresh water I switch to my wet-dry shop vac to finish the job.

I kinda figured. There was just no way that mine was operating the way it was suppose to. Bissell wouldn't be able to keep these in the hands of the consumer if that was the case.

                  Colin,
I totally understand where you are coming from as it took me 2 years to save up my spare change to get the Durrmaid. Thanks for the kind words about the van.

It may be 10x the price, but not the most expensive either. I have seen high end extractors going for over 2000 dollars.

That would be correct. I did 6 complete details(interior, exterior) and it was paid off in full.

Re: Bissell LGM - What a let down

I just used mine last weekend on my matts. After sucking the water out, I pulled out my Rigid shop vac to see what it left, almost nothing was found in the holding area of the Rigid. the LGM did a great job. If I were a pro and doing interiors daily, I would get a mytee but for an enthusiast, the LGM seems great.

Last weekend was the mats, this weekend I clean the carpets of the driver and passenger side using the same procedure:

                        - Vacuumed carpets with my Ridgid wet/dry vac
                        - Spray area to be cleaned with carpet cleaner untill moist
                        - Used a carpet brush on my dual action and went over the entire carpet
                        - Rinsed by using my Little Green Machine with just water. The LGM sprayed the water down and vacuumed it up right afterwards. Went over each area two or three times to esure thorough rinsing.
                        - First step dried by using the suction of the LGM.
                        - Completely dried by letting two Stanely Blowers blow from the seats pointed towards the carpets for several hours. (One blower on each seat). Wanted to make extra sure that the carpet fully dried to prevent mildew.

I will get the back seats' carpet in a week or two.

I bought one a week ago and thought it was the biggest waste of $80.. I am going to take it back.. the sprayer was about 6 inches wide and would get all over everything inside and wouldn't pick up any water even after several passes. I had much better luck with a spray bottle of APC, brush and a 6.5HP shop vac!!!

Guess everyone forgot why it's called (little) green machine?
It has little suction and more spray not something I'd recommend, if your serious about cleaning get something better...

The Hoover Steamvac Jr. seemed to get better reviews than the LGM. Worth checking out. (Model #F5411)
