I use a stiff brush and a leather cleaner on stubborn areas, but again it is a matter of using the least abrasive method possible. Stiff brushes may be necessary to thoroughly clean the depth of the grain to remove very stubborn soiling.
That said most new leather is top-coated and one of the leading causes of wear is abrasion, similar to scuffing your clear-coat. The best bet is to clean the leather often so that deeper cleaning is never neccessary.
