I agree, the accesories make the tool. There was a grand opening of a new Home Depot by us last summer. I bought the rigid there , it was a door buster special. The car accessory kit actually costs more then the unit itself. lol. But it has been worth it so far.

I like using a home vacuum on floor mats. The rotating brush really helps clean them much better than suction alone.

That's a good technique!!!
I couldn't stress enough that suction is no substitute for a beater brush

I use a hot water extractor on floor mats and carpets, does way better than vacuum alone.

They should be vacuumed first anyways, IMO. I wouldn't want to be sucking up all of that junk into an extractor. Besides, they are two completely different things.

I did say better than a vacuum alone. I use a Craftsman wet/dry to pick up as much as I can, I think its a 6.5HP, 16Gal unit. After that I use the extractor to deep clean. Even after a good vacuum job, some people might be amazed to see how black and nasty the water in the extractor gets (I know I was the first time).

Not only do you notice dirty water being pulled up during extracting, but the original color of carpet comes back ....

I use a 5gallon Shop vac.. Not sure on the HP, got it at walmart for cheap and it does great for what I need.

My 13 year old Shop-Vac is a 2.0 HP w/ a 10 gallon tank. Still is powerful after all these years. Love it!
