I have had the CP sander and polisher for a couple of years and they work great and very good quality.

        ***** UPDATE ****

We've reviewed the contents of the MHSRKIT as well as its MSRP and we're making some very positive changes!

The total price of the kit has been lowered by $50 and we're adding one more of each pad to the mix (a little over $25 worth of pads!).

        Yeah, we're nice like that.

Maybe I missed something here but after the headlights have been sanded, don't they need to be protected somehow with some sealent or something?
            i.m. skeptical... of everything.

This is always a good thing. Too bad I'm not a professional detailer who could make some money off this thing.

Headlights come from the factory with a UV protective coating that, unfortunately, starts to degrade and become almost blotchy looking as it wears down. UV radiation and exposure to road grime virtually sand blasting the coating breaks it down to such a degree that the polycarbonate lens underneath it is exposed and begins to pit and oxidize. Yes, sanding will remove any remaining coating material, but by that point the coating is pretty well gone anyway. Once you've polished the lens back to brilliant clarity it no longer has this protective film on it and you can expect the headlight to oxidize once again - this is not a permanent fix. Routine maintenance with a product like PlastX will do wonders for holding off this degredation, however, and can be likened to any other cleaning and polishing to prevent the build up of defects - whether that be routine cleaning of carpets an upholstery to prevent dirt and stains from accumulating, or the routine polishing of paint as swirls start to build up so as to prevent the situation from getting to terrible looking.

Routine maintenance is always easier than corrective work.

So PlastX can be used like a wax, in the sense that it will add some UV protection? Or should headlights be waxed afterwards?

I'm just wondering if Meguiar's has any sort of headlight/plastic protection product that can/should be applied to these surfaces during routine maintenance. My thought was that PlastX is abrasive and thus using during routine waxing to protect headlights may be too degrading...

I hope I'm making some sort of sense :/

Apologies for the late response to this, but we've had some discussion with Chicago Pneumatic regarding this and it turns out even their website was wrong!

                    What's needed is the following:
                    • 3 cfm
                    • 60 - 90 psi
                    • 30 gallon tank

Interestingly, Sears has a Craftsman compressor in either vertical or horizontal orientation on sale right now for $299.00. Perfect fit for this, and small enough to put in a truck or van.

xantonin, yes, you can use PlastX for routine maintenance and some level of protection. Consider it similar to using a cleaner wax on a regular basis on the paint - the regular removal of very light issues will prevent them building up to the point of serious degradation. Headlights are so often overlooked in this regard, until they're far enough gone to compromise light output.

We need a price without the air tools. I think this kit would work with my rotary. What does eveybody think?

I use a DeWalt D55168 compressor which is awesome for doing my headlight lens restoral.

It works, but definately not the same......it's nice to work with small hand held tools. Not only that I get quicker and better results with the pneumatic set up.

All of the parts are sold separately except for the tools, the bag and the small bottles of M105/M205.

While the spot buffing pads would indeed work just fine with a traditional rotary, you definitely do NOT want to sand with a rotary! Yes, you can use a G110v2 or other D/A polisher for the sanding part, and it would work quite well. But there does come a time when the size of a G110v2 and traditional rotary would get to be a bit cumbersome.
