I have heard some say that clay will get mushy & fall apart when using car wash for a lube.

Car wash solution as a lube for clay...

I have used a clean soltuion of car wash soap in a sprayer to do my clay work. I have used Mothers, 3M and Schlegel Gray Ghost clays and never had a problem wioth the solution as a lube or the clay getting "mushy".

I haven't had a mushy clay bar from using a light mixture of car wash and water, however, using Zaino quick detailer turned my Mother's and Quik Clay into goop. Easy to squish around to a clean side and my guess is not help the clay pull contaminents.

In my car detailing shop, my workers always use a shampoo that mixed for washing a car for lubricate the meguiars overspray clay.

The result is easy to move the clay and come out smoothly also.

I use car soap and water as the lube all the time with perfect results. I have used many brands out there and the only one to ever fall apart with its OWN lube was Pinnacle.

I've also used a little bit of car wash soap and water as lube. It seemed to work fine, but left some soapy looking residue behind. And I'm not one of those people who re-washes the car after claying.

But I have come up with a new method I plan to try out next time I wax my car: First I'll wash the car like normal. Then while it is still wet I'll quickly clay it. And because it is still wet I won't need to use nearly as much Quick Detailer. Plus, since I towel off each panel as I go, the car will be dry and ready to wax when I'm done claying.

Does that sound like a good method?? What do you guys think?

This car is BMW 735 that need to clean overspray after he fixed his spoilor at body shop. I used overspray clay from Meguiars.

The result is quite sticky sometime when hand moved too slow.

Mushy means sticky and soft right? I am not sure the meaning sorry no Dictionary close to me.

                      Rusty ...

In a 32 oz bottle I fill just the bottom of the bottle with the soap. You dont need alot at all, just enough to make the surface slick.

Altho we do not Dawn wash very often, I found that Pinnacle and Clay Magic bars begin to fall apart quite quickly in that solution.

Just another reason to remember that Dawn should remain in the Kitchen!

                            Just a suggestions.....

Try mixing Final Detail D51 with water 1:1 or 50/50.
It cuts your cost in half
optimizes the cutting or power of your clay
Will lubricate sufficiently and not allow clay to stick
Benefit over using car wash, you can wipe the detailer off and go right to cleaning, polishing, and waxing. As opposed to rinsing off the wash solution and drying.

Some will use wash solution after thoroughly washing and rinsing vehicle (allow rinse water to remain on surface) and then rinse/dry after claying has been completed....Man did that make sense???
