Just Started Detailing! Quiting my job!

I've bough about $450 in products and advertising this past week and have done "samples" on 4 cars and the response is amazing. I have 3 confirmed customers in my neighbourhood who want their cars done. Here's my strategy:

I walk over to them for a friendly conversation when their outside playing with their kids or moving their lawn. I tell them I'm an autodetailer and ask if anything about their car is bothering them. They show me a scratch or a stain and I bring over my bag of products and take out the defect. Their amazed and want to schedule a full detail. I've practiced and read ALOT on here so I feel prepared to detail for pay. I'm quiting my $6.75 per hour job at the movie theatre and doing this from now on

Max, your enthusiasm is admirable, but I'd rethink quitting that minimum wage job just yet...

In this economy, jobs are hard to come by even if they are minimum wage. Since the jobless rate is at an all time high since 1982-83, not too many people have extra cash on hand to pamper their vehicles, opting to do it themselves.

Also remember, your minimum wage job is contributing to your social security. If you are doing the detailing business exclusively, are you going to report that income on your taxes (I highly doubt it-I know I wouldn't)?

I don't know your financial status, and I'm not trying to discourage you either. You may have a few customers now, but you might be hurting later on when you can't quickly drum up new business. Wait a little bit before quitting that part time job!

try to build your client base first before taking such major step.

Huge update today. A wealthy friend of mine's parents scheduled a detail of their 24ft boat and the wife's Dodge Charger. They live on the bay and have many friends with boats that need a wax job. I think I might find even better money in boats. I just need to figure out what to charge. I'm thrilled as hell right now.

Congrats, hats off to you for starting your own business instead or working for a low paying job. I'd wish you good luck, but you don't need it - you make your own luck by hard work and preparation

maxrezn - im just curious, but how old are you? Just figuring your prolly in HS or College judging by the $6.75/hr job.
