I totally agree!! Do you think my examples convey the message of value, and quality of service? I guess that's what I'd look for.

      scrub,

Still sitting here at the 'puter'. (Wireless home network and a Powerbook make it too easy to spend time on the Internet)

Yep, understand where you're coming from. Take what you can get and work towards building a solid customer base. Again, just two basic things you should think about. What message you're trying to communicate and how to differentiate yourself from "the competition".

I think the "We take our time to make it shine” tag line would meet your objective. I think that would appeal to either a daily driver owner or someone with a high $$ value car". Who wouldn't want to have their car detailed by someone who takes their time to do the job right!

I'm not sure what these mean:

"Carl Childress's Auto Detail and Lawnmower Blade Sharpening". Sorry, I guess I'm missing something here.

Scrub-a-dub detailing was funny, but I agree with your friends. Scrub and detail don't belong together. Gives me visions of a business run by the likes of the 3 stooges! Larry, Curly and Moe with galvanized buckets and mops fighting over each other while washing/waxing and in the process making a mess out of my car!

I think Spoilman has a great name going with "Every Little Detail"; however, I suggest you talk to him and get his permission if you decide on using that name (or work together), I'll just collect my commission for putting the 2000 concept, with my modification, and Spoilman’s company name together.
A great finish begins with the right start!

You'll be very happy with the commission. If your every in the area I'll throw in a free wash and wax service. Or better yet I can meet you in Indy in the upcoming weeks.

As for the Carl Childress thing... Did you see Sling Blade??

Yep, the "What's in it for me" is pretty much text book marketing 101. It's the core of any business, serving the customer and meeting their needs. Again, it goes back to what message do you want to communicate to your potential clients and how do you differentiate yourself from the competition. What would I as a customer get from you that I can't get from everyone else out there?

Here's my .02 worth on the list of names you have so far.

Take these comments as fun, but with meaning, OK?!

          RRC Detailing (family initials)
Ok, but what does RRC mean to me as a customer. Why would I remember the name? There's a ton of little business names that use a similar scheme.

          RD Detailing (my initials)
          Ditto to the above.

Rick's Detailing and Carwash (If I offer just a wash and wax service.. Something about letting a car leave my place not totally showroom perfect to the best of my abilities)
Ditto to the above, but also sounds too "Mom and Pop". In the business I'm in (electronic security) we call some installers "trunk slammers" who work out of their car/home. Nothing wrong with that, but even it it's just a "wash and wax" business, why not position/market yourself as a professional business? You never know if that may be where it leads you some day.

          Scrub's Detailing
I think you and your buddy's already answered this one for you.

          Shine Brite Detailing
Not bad! I always liked the company name "Superior Shine" (a lot!) that someone has for their business name who posts on this and I think Autopia's web site.

          Glow Brite Detailing
Reminds me of the Light Brite toy. Not sure how old you are and if you remember these. Funny, but the Shine Brite doesn't give me that image, but "glow brite" does.

          Aiken's Detail Shoppe (city name)
Not bad, but again, probably a dime a dozen businesses use the city name. What's in it for me, what message are you communicating and differentiates you from the competition? Compare this with “Superior Shine” Whoa! I know which one gets my attention!

Detailing Aiken (I like this as it would indicate I'm for detailing Aiken so come on over. Not trying to sound arrogant)
Yea, this one's pretty cool as you're using the concept of putting a spin on the city name and detailing. As I said before, when you can put a spin on something, people will remember. Sort of like “Balloons over ___insert city name__” franchises, if you have any of those where you live.

          All in the Details
I like this as well. Similar to "Every Little Detail". The only thing about either of these two is for a company name it may be a bit wordy.

          Detail Oriented
Hummm? Doesn't do much for me as a customer. It tells me your detailed oriented, but the above "AITD" and "ELD" give me a better fuzzy that your paying attention to details on MY car.

          Showroom Shine
Not bad! Similar to Superior Shine. I like it!

          Showroom Shine Specialist
Is this your title at the dealership? Just joking. Looks more like a title or one-man operation (which it is, but hey again, why not shoot for looking bigger than you are and a bit more professional)

          Ultimate Showroom Shine
Not bad either. Similar to the above. (showroom shine)

          Plus others from this forum
          Scrub-a-Dub Detailing Service
Good fun name! Hey, you could always keep this in mind for use as a school, church, etc. car wash name where the kids/teens will be doing a wash for fund raising!

As Long As It Takes Detailing
Too long a name. And as Mike stated, if you want to have a web site, keep the name short and meaningful

          Every Little Detail
See previous post. You'll have to talk to SpoilMan.

As far as catch phrase it's set "We take our time to make it shine!"

Sorry for the long post. FWIW, I hope this helps some in your quest for the perfect name for your new business.

            Thanks for the lenghty reply!!!

I totally agree with each and every assessment after reading your reply. You have uncovered some great info from the outside looking in. To me the names all had merit. In reality how they made you fell and think was very important. Thanks for the candid, funny and truthful dissection of each name. You really put some thought and time in your reply. I appreciate your time.

I knew I was missing something on the Carl Childress name. I never saw Sling Blade.

Are you going to be in Indy near the end of the month? Someone over at Autopia.org is trying to put together a detail clinic around Cincinnati, OH some time near the end of the July.

The famous ScottWax (from Dallas, TX) may be there. I’m going to try to make it. Let me know if you want to know more and I'll PM you.

sorry I missed all this yesterday...you've got a good list to choice from.there's a couple I really like, but taking Mikes advice on the dot com thing may make some of them a little harder to use. I do agree with the statement scrub and detail shouldn't be in the same sentance so I guess I'll have to keep www.scrubadub.com to myself. the only one I didn't care for was Aiken's Detail Shoppe , to generic. heres another for your list to go withthe phrase " where we take our time to make it shine." one at a time detail service. I think it would work for a www. good luck on your choice.
fiberrich & SpoiledMan had some great ideas in there. Mikes idea about the web, although I never would of thought of it, seems a natural by todays standard of the internet. now you get the hard part, you have to choice.

If y'all are coming to Indy, please come by the shop!

Regarding the name, I don't have a suggestion, but...

                    Make it memorable!

I originally thought mine was TOO cute, but I'm still amazed at the positive comments I get...

                      Scrub,

You have Showroom Shine and Ultimate Showroom Shine. This is just a thought. Here's a variant of the two. "Ultimate Shine". (sort of like Superior Shine. I do like the "SS" connection in this name better, but that's no big deal)

You could add "Detailing Service" after/under the name as Spoiledman is going to do with his name.

                      So:

                      Ultimate Shine
"We take our time to make it shine"

                      or

                      Ultimate Shine Detailing Service
"We take our time to make it shine"

As for the web/domain name issue, that can make it tough to come up with a name since so many ideals you have may be taken. However, don't count everything out and be creative.

For example, I did a quick search and found that "ultimateshine.com" is taken, but "theultimateshine.com" is not. The first one belongs to a mobile detailing company, but they are in the UK. You're in the USA.

One good thing about taking a domain name into consideration is that it will force you to keep your company name short. As it should be.

You know, you could even play off this more in listing your services.

                      Great shine (wash and wax)
                      Complete shine (inside/outside)
Ultimate shine (clean, polish, glaze, wax)

Since your objective is to address any type of customer you can get, Joe Public can come to you with his daily driver to get a "Great Shine", If someone has a special occasion and wants their car to look nice throughout, they can get a "Complete shine" and someone else can bring in their pride and joy for the "Ultimate shine". Just a thought.

Hey, Buffit! If that's your company name, than that is just tool cool!

It's not to "cute" at all. When you put a spin on something like that, people are going to remember your name!

So what's your company's tag line?

"We take your finish to a whole new latitude?"

Sorry, I couldn't resist! I wonder what it might be if you did collission repair?

                      Humm, "Wasted away again in . . . ."
A great finish begins with the right start!

I'm liking the variations I'm seeing and I didn't put them together like that. Great food for thought. Throwing out names is the easy part; deciding and living up to it is a different story.
