  • Please help with a company name

As I'm new to the detailing business and would like to learn, grow, and expand I would like to start making some concrete changes so to speak. I don't have flyers or business cards due to lack of a company name. I feel this is now preventing me from going where I know I can go.

Could I get some assistance from the board on some company name ideas??

I'm looking for something original and kind of catchy. Please help!!

I've got some ideas but I'll wait and see what I get from replies.

Thanks in advance. This could be fun.

By the way, I'm by no means a "Pro"!!

I've been in marketing for years. Not that by any means I have all the answers.

Here are a couple of things you may want to think about.

In selecting your company name, what image/message do you want to convey to your potential customers (quality, quick, mobile, etc.).

How do you want to position yourself against your competition? (daily drivers, high-end cars, SUV specialist, boats and RVs too?)

It's always fun coming up with a new company name and especially developing one with a slick spin on a key message (those attributes you decide upon from the above questions) you want to communicate to the market (your potential clients).

I’m sure there will be multiple company names suggested that will be posted here; however, take a moment and think about what the core values will be in running your business, what part of the market you’re after and what your company will deliver. Narrow it down to one or two key points and post them here. It will force you, and all of us, to be more creative and selective in coming up with the right company name.
A great finish begins with the right start!

The answers to these questions will certainly help you to come up with the perfect name for your new business. It's not uncommon to go thru about fifty to one hundred names before choosing the one that's right for you.

I would highly reccommend that you write down every possibility that comes into your head and that others may suggest. Stay positive. Don't eliminate any names until you've got at least fifty to choose from. Write down everything. Then simply mix and match the words in your list of names. That process will allow you to get closer to your ultimate choice. Have fun. It's not that difficult.

          hey scrub,
on a serious note, I was thinking about the thread about time issues and you said you were willing to take alittle extra time for your results. you could use that to your advantage in advertising with a name like "as long as it takes detail service" or something alittle better along those lines.

You could be the east coast division of what I plan on using.

            "Every Little Detail"

with "Auto Care" under it on the card.

I'm working on the card now.....

              Scrub,

I'm certainly not trying to make choosing a name a difficult process; I just posted some ideals/thoughts to get the creative juices flowing.

I like where 2000 is going with this! Sort of like the wine commercial "We'll sell no wine before it's time".

So to expand on this some more, how about: "We take our time to make it shine!"

This is exactly what I was saying about how cool it is when you can put a spin on words. This communicates to me that if I were to use your service that you would take real good care of my vehicle while it's in your hands (treating it as if it were your own) and when I get it back it's going to look great! Quality, attention to detail, and satisfaction guaranteed!

Now, this would only be the company's "tag line" and you still need to come up with a name, but it's a great start!

              Great thinking 2000!

                Holy cow!

While I was posting my last response, SpoiledMan comes in with the grand slam for the name!

Now marry the two together and you have:

                Every Little Detail Auto Care

"We take our time to make it shine"

                Looks like a match!

Ok, so there's one name ideal, anyone have any other ideas?

P.S. I still like 2000's other suggestion of scrub-a-dub-dub detailing

Hey, I'm glad you like that!! Don't forget, I'm working on the west coast end of it. I'm putting the business card together as we speak.

I posted this to Autopia and had to sift through scads of my old posts to find it, here you go,

If it were me, I would name it something that I can turn into a domain name just as easily.

                      For example,

                      www.5starDetail.com

Which was available by the way... as I was typing this up I just made up the name, then did a search and because it was available and I bought it....

I check all of my domain name ideas at,

                      http://www.000domains.com

Because I can do a whois search there at the same time. But I register and park them at www.godaddy.com because they are good, reliable and cheap. In fact right now, you can purchase a domain name for $7.99

So think of an easy to remember, easy to spell/type domain name that ties in with your business.

Here's one I have always kind of liked because I think it pre-qualifies your customers...

                      www.highdollardetail.com

                      It's available by the way...

(Think big, as in big dollars)

                      My 2 cents...

I can show you where to host a website for $6.00 a year, and register your domain name for $8.00 a year for a total of $14.00 to have a web presence.

Do like me, teach yourself how to write html code and create your own webpages and website for nothing but your time.

                          Thanks !!

Fellas Fellas, Sorry for delay in reply. Thanks for great ideas!

I didn't give out any other info than original post to get fresh ideas from all perspectives not just from high end or budget detailing.

Now I'll go post by post:

                          fiberrich
As for image I'll detail anything that rolls or someone will pay to have detailed. I'm not picky for 2 reasons.
                          1. I need the practice of serving customers a finished detail. When I detail my own I have no commitments to keep and can bypass steps as I feel. With a paying customer I'm serving them in the allotted time.

                          2. I'm just trying to build a customer base using repeat and word of mouth just like everyother detailer out there. Nothing new here. I want my work to speak for itself.

As for position maybe one day I'll be able to turn away daily drivers but I just can't do this yet. Can't see turning away cash especially when I order product every week even if I don't have a detail lined up!

Company name to me should flow like a nickname you can'tm ake one up it just shows up and describes you to a T.

                          mirrorfinishman
Your right.. I'll take your advice. At work we're using a dry erase board. And its tons of fun. One good one so far was Carl Childress's Auto Detail and Lawnmower Blade Sharpening!!

                          2000
Not so fast!! I suggested Scrubs Detailing Service "Leave the scrubbing to us" Coworker said "scrub" and "detail" don't mix.

As for time I will use as a name or slogan like you said.

                          SpoiledMan
Are you serious?? We'll talk!! I like the idea...

                          fiberrich & 2000
Great idea I will definitly use that!

                          Mike Phillips
That's some good stuff. I didn't think about that avenue of marketing. I'll take you up on the web site host. Thanks!!

Eventually I'd like to be appointment only, maintenance and upkeep, with some new clients. This is just a weekend gig for me. Hi end would be nice but this area might not support. I feel for hi end I need one client in a big neighborhood to get me rolling.

                              Some more free advice,

"Think like your customer - adopt your customer's mindset"

Simply put yourself in your customers shoes, try to think like they think. You want your name to be easy to remember, and to tell your customer what it is you can do for them.

                              Remember, your customer's mindset is,

                              "What's in it for me?

In other words, when your potential customer hears, or sees your business name, it should tell them what you do, and what this means to them. It should be easy to remember, and if you can turn it into a dot.com name, then if they are interested, and they remember, they can go to your website for more information.

This is where you can then go into much greater detail about what you can do for them as well as post pictures of your work along with testimonies.

                              FWIW
