go to wal-mart and look in the hardware dept, and you'll find some 5 gallon buckets. i like the white colored ones so i can see how much dirt, etc.. that is being moved around. you can order the grit guard here, for a resonable $10 ---> http://www.meguiars.com/?home-cleani...t-Guard-Insert

p.s. i have the rubbermaid bucket and i really don't care for it. for one... the handle had popped out a few times and i've had to pop it back in, and it doesn't slide back and forth smoothly. you can't go wrong with the standard 5 gallon bucket and grit guard, imo.

Edit: You can also find 5 gallon buckets of laundry detergent at the warehouse clubs.......Just save the bucket after the contents are used up, or transfer the detergent into another container.
Our local Donut shop gets chocolate glazes and such in nice 5 gallon buckets. Easy off lids with rubber seals. They even clean them out. They will give them away when asked but there is a sign up on the wall that says a buck a piece.

out of curiosity, does anyone know how much Home Depot or Lowes sells a 5 gal bucket?
I like the Grit Guard idea, but not the price for a bucket.
not sure if I want to go door to door at restaurants and ask if they have any to give or sell.

one more thing. do most people just order the Grit Guard directly from them? I don't see those in speciality auto stores.

        thanks.

Some Pep Boys have 5 gallone orange buckets with their logo on it. You can use them to shop and return it when your done, or have the option to buy it for 5 bucks.

Flea markets usually sell them real cheap.

I just can't envision myself paying $5.00 for an ordinary 5 gallon bucket.......Just my opinion here.

good suggestion of a place to search. don't know of many flea markets in my area.
I would like to pay lower than $5 for a bucket. its just finding a place or person that will make that offer.
I'll just have to hunt a little.

also, a 3.5g bucket would work the same with the exception that it it holds 1.5 gal less?
same method as the 2/5g, but using a 2/3.5g.
                just a thought.

                    Well,

I bit the bullet and ordered the two bucket system from Grit Guard. Although expensive, it is proving very handy.

I ordered two 5 gal. buckets--one with black ring, lid and grit guard for the "dirty" water and one blue set for the clean water, so I don't forget which is which.

Since I already had two grit guards previously, I use two per bucket. I like how easy this is when washing; you don't have to reach as far into the bucket to get your washing item, and your washer also stays even further from the grit at the bottom.

Luan Lamb at Grit Guard was nice to talk to. They shipped right away.

My only problem with the system is when installing the casters, be very careful to not let brass setting ring get out of position. And the casters can slip out fairly easy when you have the two buckets attached to each other and you glide them over a sloped curb to the street.

Other than that, I like it.

This is funny, I end up thowing out 5 gallon buckets all the time because I have too many! lol I go through a fair ammount of regular and light weight joint compound. I even use one for my dirty terry towels. I used a 1" bit and drilled a bajillion (lol) holes through out so that if the towels are wet they won't go nasty.

We're back to bags... the bucket deal was when we had an excess inventory of buckets from a promotion some time ago. I snagged them up for our classes as I figured most people would love to have a new 5-gallon bucket.

Yep, I got my grit guard system last week. Used it for the first time over the weekend.

I love it. Great product. I am ordering. I have 2 5 gallon buckets and 2 dollies with all lids and a seat. Also have a 3.5 gallon in Blue for the same logic as you.. Also have a black setup I got with my Ultimate Oragnaizer. This is my wheel and tire bucket.

I love the system. Has great, water tight lids, and stackable. I don;t have a garage, so this setup enables me to put all my car washing gear into the buckets and close them up and store the whole thing outside up against the house.. Now I can store all my brushes, mits and such in these buckets outside and can cover them so I don't have to sweat them getting dirty.

I lke to keep my buckets close by when working and with having the 2 buckets attached, it is easy just to give the whole thing a little push with my foot and have it right where it is needed.

I let a friend use it to wash his Silverado. which I just clayed sunday, He loved the thing. He is a big fisherman and wants his own to keep on the boat.

The setup does coast a bit but for what it does for me it was worth the investment.

I was at Wal-Mart today and I saw 5 gallon buckets for $2.88.

They came in two colors, black and camouflage. I saw them near the paint and hardware dept., but they might be in sporting goods too since hunting season is upon us......I guess that's why they are colored so.

                                Jeff,
Did you have any problem installing the casters? I had to use pliers to squeeze a couple of the brass rings back into place so I could slide them into the openings on the bucket bottoms.

Then it slid back out when I rolled them over an uneven area to the street to empty and rinse.
But other than that they are great. The screw on lids work like a charm; give 'em a twist and they close all the way by themselves just about.

I like what you said about storing stuff in them to keep them clean and handy.

I also got the padded seat cushion. But I do not have a 3.5 gal. bucket. Would that be a good size to put the pad on for sitting and rolling when using the DA on lower body areas?
