  • Topping NXT.. ? on results

I always wanted to try to top NXT like people here do. I finally got some spare time and I worked on my black 2004 Mustang GT. I washed, clayed, #80, NXT x2 with the PC. This morning I decided to be a little creative on what looks good in my eyes. I did a 2'x2' section on the hood with #21, Gold Class, and #26. I was quite suprised that with the amount of polish in #80 that when I applied Gold Class in the 2'x2' section I had darker gloss in the area. I seemed to like the NXT with Gold Class as a topper on black. #21 would be by second choice and #26 I was not really impressed with.

My 2005 Black Chevy Z71 looks great using the same formula above but seems to give more gloss with topped #21 then with Gold Class.

    Questions:

    1) Are the types of polishes Meguiars offer contain more or are the oils different in each polish???

    2) Do different types of paints react different to the polishing oils?

    Thanks,

    Nick

    1) Well, they always are refered to as trade secret oils, so I dont think anyone is sure exactly. I am sure they are about the same oils, but can be different amounts. For instance, Gold Class Wax has a bit of oils in. The #7 pure polish will have a lot. Cleaner waxes have some, etc.

    2. I would say probably. Different paints have different pores, and may absorb differently.

      1) We're not supposed to answer questions about ingredients to the point that you're asking, suffice to say #7 has the richest content of polishing oils.

      2) I would say yes, single stage paint are more porous and absorb polishing oils better than clear coats and as clear coats age, see more wear and tear and become more permeable they react better to polishing.

Applying a pure polish to any paint is always beneficial as just the act of pushing a rich creamy product over the finish in a careful manner helps to create gloss and beauty.

Thanks for the info.. I will have to pick up a bottle of #7 and see what that does in my experiments!

        Thanks again,
