  • Polishing wet

So today I decided I would polish my camry's finish because swirls were beginning to form. I got out my scratch-x and my #7 show car glaze and got to work. But as I worked it in, more swirls were created by the pad.

I figured this was because of the quality of the pad (just an off brand bought at autozone), so I went to autozone and explained to them my situation.

The guy asked me if I had dampened the pad with water before polishing. I said no, but I would certainly try it.

So as soon as I got home I got to work now using meguiar's even coat applicator (wet) with scratch-x. Results seemed satisfactory, but I was wondering if this is a good technique to use or not? I had never read in any documentation on meguiar's that the applicator had to be wet.

    Hey,

No, you do not have wet the pad first. With compounds, it is OK to prime the pad with something like #34 Final Inspection. Or, you could simply apply a little more product in the form of an "X" to prime the pad. Either method would works just fine!

I am surprised that you found swirls being added by the ScratchX. It does sound like poor quality applicators. Here is a link to the proper application of ScratchX:

But with LSP's do not prime the pad with a QD. Only use the product itself as anything else that is added may interefere with the performance of the product.

Cant believe I didnt think to prime the pad with a quick detailer! Next go around, I'll use NXT Speed Detailer to get it moist. Thanks a bunch!
