    Hey Guys,

I'm new here and would like some information regarding how to clean and wax my car. Its my first car so i don't know too much.

I bought an orbital polisher yesterday and 2 products:

    1. Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

    2. Meguiars Deep Crystal Wet Look Polymer Sealant.

These are the only products that i have. I wash my car at the car wash and therfore use their own soap. I'm thinking of doing the car washing at home now.

I have got a couple of questions:

    1. Do I need other products ? If yes which one.

    2. How do i use them? Please provide as much detail as possible, coz i really don't know anything.

For instance, if lets say i apply the paint cleaner do i have to wash the car again before applying the Wet Look Polymer sealant

    3. Is there any particular sequence when using the products.

    4. How do i apply the products? By hand of by using the orbital polisher thing

    Please help

    Thanks guys

Looks like it's time for a how to article on using the traditional orbital buffer.

    Hi adcha1,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

What you need and how to best apply it is determined by the condition of your car's finish and your car care goals. So if you share with us this information, we will all be better able to give you some tips. Until then, here's some good reading for you to bring you up to speed.

Have you ever used detailing clay on your car's paint?

After you wash and dry your car, feel the horizontal surfaces for little bumps, if you feel them, then you'll want to clay your car before doing any other procedure.

After that, you want to apply the paint cleaner first, then wipe it off. Paint cleaners don't need to dry, just apply, work in, then remove.

Next, apply the polish, same as above.

Next, apply the wax only let the wax dry until it swipes clear. If you have the time, apply two thin coats.

          Ok.

Could you please state products that i should use. I have never used a clay bar and how about the 2 products that i have just bought. What is the differcence between a polish and a wax and where does the Deep Crystal Wet Look Polymer Sealant sit. Is it a wax or a polish?

As per the 5 step paint care cycle:

            1. Wash car (gold class, nxt, soft wash gel)

            2. Clean / prepare car (claybar, paint cleaner)

            3. Polish car (deep crystal polish)

            4. Protect car (gold class wax, nxt wax, Polymer Sealant )

            5. Maintain (Quik wax, quik detailer)

I have highlighted the products you already have in the steps above. Also you may need to get some microfibre cloths and foam applicators for applying and removing the product/residue from the paint. You may want to print the 5 step cycle out (as mentioned and linked by Mike Phillips) and keep it as a reference as it contains the proper use of the products in each step.

Whoa! Never heard of Deep Crystal Wet Look Polymer Sealant! Is that a new product, or the Australian version of NXT? We need more info about that product. It will probably do a very good job for you though.

                  And more....

                  WASH & WAX

High lubricating formula that makes dirt and grime slide away, while enhancing colour and adding "high bead" wax protection. Clear coat safe and easy to use.

                  NO SMEAR GLASS CLEANER

Fast cleaning action with crystal clear results. Leaves no smear or haze and has a pleasant deodourising fragrance. No ammonia and tint safe.

GOLD CLASS DASH & TRIM FOAM

Rich creamy foam spreads out evenly for uniform, streak-free Coverage with less mess and less waste. This easy to use foam contains Meguiar's most powerful ingredients which go right to work restoring the shine without feeling oily or greasy, with no more messy overspray. This advanced formula contains both UVA and UVB sunscreens, which help prevent premature ageing, fading, splitting and cracking due to harmful UV exposure.

                  CLOTH & TRIM CLEANER

A natural biodegradable citrus formula containing no harmful solvents, which deep cleans and deodorises cloth, velour, carpet, vinyl, leather and plastic. Suitable for use with wet/extraction vacuums for professional results.

                  NON ACID WHEEL CLEANER

Safe and biodegradable, yet highly effective in loosening and dissolving brake dust and grime. Cleans and brightens coated and non-coated Alloy wheels and tyres.

There's more, but it was tiring just to do all of the formatting.

Some sound similar... but a few are different. Hopefully Mike or someone can say if there are any major differences, or comparisons.

First the Aussies hide the GTO from us, then they hide some new Meguiar's products from us! What's next?

Oh, there is one more thing. They also have a 4 door version, called the Commodore that they are still hiding from us. 350-400HP V8 in a 4 door family sedan. They use 'em for police cars too. Bama needs a Commodore to make his wife happy.

Oh, and they have an El Camino version too, of which I forget the name.

Back on topic..........the Deep Crystal Sealant reminds me of a Consumer Line Polymer Sealant they had back in the 80s. It was very long lasting but difficult to buff off. It looked great and lasted through the winter with only one coat. I don't remember what they called it but it was in a silver metal can with maroon printing on it. I'll bet Mike has one in his collection.

I'd like to try out the wash & wax product.

There's nothing like it in the stores around here......At least to the best of my knowledge.

They better station an armed guard near the rare stuff, just in case any OCDs get any ideas!

If I had known that Wash and Wax had a grape smell, I definitely would have bought some! That would be almost as good as key lime!
