    It sound to me as though you're not using enough product? It's really quite simple, pour some onto your applicator pad, spread it out over the finish, wipe it off using a plush terry cloth towel or a microfiber polishing cloth. Anything with a nap will help to remove it off the surface.

    Also, pure polishes like the M81 don't need to dry and shouldn't be allowed to dry as this will make it difficult to remove them.

    Apply polish
    Work in
    Wipe off
    Move to new section

    I want to thank Mike for his advice, he was right on the money. I was using too little product, Tonight I was able to try #81 again. This time I put about twice as much on the pad as I had before, and applyied it to about 1/4 of the hood. Wiped on worked in a little and wiped off. No smudges or streaks or trouble of any kind.
