I limit the use of mine to only removing light garage dust or polishing dust. In my mind, if you use this to remove pollen or tree fall-out, it's likely to store some of those particles only to drag them across your paint at a later use.

HCAD, good point. And as Top Gear mentioned in this thread: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...a-Duster/page3

The weather can wreak havoc on the CD's effectiveness. From what I've read, it would be senseless for me--using the CD to remove pollen and then having to follow it up with UQD and a MF cloth just seems like more work than it's worth.

I use UQD with a MF to remove the pollen and dust, which works great for me.

Benefits of a dry climate--if you're in Lynchburg VA, the humidity will make it almost impossible to clear the CD from contaminants (I grew up in DC and know all too well about humid conditions).

Living in a high desert and commuting into the mountains means there's a lot of pollen, road dust and other contaminants, some that stick, some that don't. But UQD seems to get most of them on the first pass, which saves a ton of time.

Folks are amazed at how shiny and deep the color is now. One of these days I'll figure out how to upload pictures.

Re: Asking Opinions of the California Duster

So, I have a typical California Duster with the red fringe I bought years ago and have never washed or cleaned. I keep it in the trunk and use it almost daily, or every few days. It does not scratch the surface (sometimes it looks like it's created a hologram of fine scratches, but that is an illusion. While I use UWWA and GCQW more frequently (than before having the CD and using only QD), the duster still saves extra wiping. It's essential for knocking off dust and dirt and debris and pollen, but not much help on a wet car, so I don't use it that way (it's a dry-only tool). As billddrummer said, climate is the big deal. Desert conditions are very, very different from semi-tropical. We get pollen season, relatively dry sometimes, and I've learned I can only use the duster when the pollen is very light, unless I'm prepared for more work. Even when light, and any other time, I don't just dust, but follow up with UWWA and/or QW, because the pollen or dirt grains will collect and cling around edges after a dusting, and that won't do

As for the duster collecting dirt, it will, but that's not a problem. You shouldn't use it with any amount of force that matters, just like you don't use a feather duster in your home as if you were wiping your mirrors clean. If you just dust the surfaces, you can save yourself a good bit of wiping and make "towel management" that much easier. It's also a way to make the car look clean when it really isn't, LOL.

I use mine all the time for light dust. It has been used on two black care without any issues. It is a great tool if used correctly. Look at this youtube video to see it used correctly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gVU4C_6wOE

The Original dusters with the Wood handles are the ones you want, have a couple of the WM dusters, they don't seem to be as robust as the wood handles

Agreed on the above point about the wood handled ones. I have one and use almost daily, love the way it picks up the garage dust. Key is to use it the right way. Here is a link to a youtube video where junkman shows the proper technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gVU4C_6wOE

I would much rather see these being used at the car show/light dusting then the guy wiping a 10k paint job with a shop rag
