  • Synthetic Wax, Carnauba and then Synthetic Wax (spray) layering????

    Hello All,
Ok, through many decades (old school) I've gone from carnauba paste wax to carnauba liquid wax to currently synthetic liquid wax/sealers and spray wax/sealers. I feel I'm missing the depth or feel of carnauba though and would appreciate some input.

I typically wax my vehicles three to four times per year (Meguiars UW). In the past year I've started using a spray wax after washing and between waxing. This has been a good system because the synthetics last a while and they offer a lot of protection (UV). However, I feel I'm missing the depth of carnauba.

Can I apply a layer of carnauba on occassion over a synthetic base (Megs UW) and continue to use a spray wax in-between or with regular washes?

    Thanks,
    Ralph

^^^ What they said, there are dozens of posts asking about 'layering' or 'topping' which is what you are talking about. Many people will put down a synthetic for protection and then a carnuba for 'looks.' There's no harm in doing it and many swear that it improves the look.

Once you're "topping" with a carnauba-based wax, or using one at all, you're admitting that you don't care for or need the look of a full-synthetic. Also, if you DA or hand-wax fairly regularly with your synthetic, using a quik wax very regularly in between, as well, you're also admitting there's no added value to using a synthetic in terms of protection or longevity. Either of these reasons is fatal to the wild claims about synthetics.

So, why not just use the Meguiar's carnauba-enriched wax you like, such as Detailer D301, Gold Class/M26, Deep Crystal, etc, and then maintain it regularly with a matching carnauba-based quik wax, like GCQW, just as you're already doing? What could be easier? Add to that the amazing UWWA for an added carnauba-enriched waterless wash and general detailer, GCQD for a matching APC/clay lube, and UWW for carnauba-enriched bucket washing. All of that is superior protection, anyway, and you can go months and months without having to re-wax.

I assure you, you won't miss the supposed longevity of the trendy synthetic with all that wonderful carnauba. You won't have to do double the work to apply a layer of synthetic wax just to "top" it, and you won't have to worry if that topping over is just removing or reducing the synthetic anyway (which it arguably is).

If, on the other hand, someone prefers the look of UW/NXT, or others, that's great, too. THAT should be the reason to use them.

Otherwise, my view is if it says "Meguiar's" on it, it's going to be a great product

Top Gear, thanks for the advice, but I'll stick with the supposed longevity of my trendy synthetic. Although I've stopped supposing and trending long ago.

sure can, love this SYNTHETIC X-PRESS SPRAY WAX Meguiar's Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax.

I use it every time after a wash when car is wet, about every 2 -4 weeks.
