How long does it normally last and how often should I be re applying to keep the car protected and looking its best?

You should see somewhere between 1-3 months out of it. Tough question on how often to wax. Wax as often as you need to. A spray wax such as ultimate quik wax is a great maintenance product until it needs to be waxed again. -

Well, 3 months maybe in Cali where there is no weather to speak of. In Georgia, I'd expect a couple of weeks as you get rain, etc. Use Gold Class Quick Wax to keep your M26 boosted and you can keep it very nice for a month or two.
