  • Scratch X for bug removal?

First of all let me say I am a total rookie at care cleaning and care but always use Meguiars products.

Bird crapped on brand new truck before I got to even wax it, and by the time I had it washed off it left a haze. I used scratch X to try and remove the haze and it seemed to help, but next day I could see it sightly again so I used the scratch x again and followed up with the ultimate detailing spray. Hopefully this does the trick.

Anyway, since this seemed to work well with this, I decided to use it on some small bug chunks left over that multiple hand washings would not remove. It worked great and it is all set for wax. Afterwards I got to thinking that this may not have been the best option, but it still looks ok. I didn't harm anything by using this prior to the first wax did I? I know there are special bug removers, but they seem pretty harsh and I was not going to use a bug sponge.

    Thanks

I think you might be overdoing it. With bug bits, water and your hand is probably all you need, just before a regular wash or "waterless" wash. Keeping a waxy surface will also help with making them easy to remove.

With bird droppings, a detailer spray or waterless wash (see below) will make short work of the poop, and then the stain, if any, may not be as bad as it looks, and may ease off by itself over a few washings. It's easy to over-react to such blemishes and create more of a problem, but I don't want to minimize them, either. Pictures would help.

Also, it is easy to create holograms on the clear coat surface when working by hand (one reason many of us use machines instead). So, I think the best recommendation for you at this point is for Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere and the best MF towels you can find, such as Supreme Shine. UWWA has been out for a while and has really changed all of our lives

Excellent advice, thanks for the help! I may be overdoing it, I just kind of freaked with first brand new truck and spots that didn't seem to come off. I will be getting the UWWA and a bunch of micro fiber towels for sure! I will be waxing it tomorrow with the Ultimate Liquid wax.

Great! I miss the "new car" feeling

The UW application may take care of a good bit of that spot. You might first wash with Gold Class Shampoo to thoroughly clean (use Ultimate Wash to maintain later because it has a bit of wax in it). Then after your wash, give that spot and perhaps others a very gentle compounding with ScratchX before the wax, but don't put much pressure on it, and don't get concerned if you can still "see something". I've seen many dropping spots and other stains wash away over a few cycles and you'd never know they were there. If you were doing a full machine correction, spots like that would disappear instantly, but with such a new vehicle, less is more...for now
