  • Regime for an older daily driver...

    New user here. So...Hello.

So, last summer I purchased my mother's van from her (she bought a small car) as it was pretty well cared for and she never had an issue with it and I told my '03 black Envoy to get lost. I've never been a huge fan of minivans, but I have admit that I enjoy this vehicle. Go figure.

It's a 2006 Montana, 162000 kilometers, fully loaded: Leather interior, extended version, chrome wheels, heated seats and so on. So, at the same time I started using Meguiar's products to maintain the vehicle as I made a conscious decision to take care of this one (I've always been horrible with my other vehicles).

Anyway, long story short...this is what I've decided on ( and have been) doing to maintain the van:

    1) Every 1 or 2 weeks, wash with Ultimate Wash & Wax.

    2) At same time, or 3-4 weeks, apply Ultimate Quik Wax.

    Repeat.

Of course, there's the tire dressing and interior care as well.

The only thing I may add is an application of "true" wax in late fall: my winter maintenance exists of running it through a touchless wash every couple of weeks or so.

Although the paint is in pretty good shape, there are some minor, hard to see, swirls etc, but I honestly don't want to get into a complete correction (a lot of surface area on this van= a lot of work). Doesn't make sense to me for this type of vehicle. There are 2-3 easy to see scratches/scuffs that I'll be fixing at some point, though.

So, does all that make sense as good way to go?

Included a couple of photos taken a day or so after I cleaned it up this week. It pops better in person...the camera didn't do the best job.

    Thanks!

    Looks pretty clean
    Chrome wheels are a +
Have you thought about using the clay kit? It's not to much work and totally worth it on a vehicle you take the time to maintain. Apply a "real" layer of wax just after the claybar step and you'll take it to the next level.

I would start with a cleaner wax if you aren't using a DA. I'm sure White Wax comes into play here.
The initial step is the key to a more durable finish. Follow ups will last longer and look better.

Nice van. I've seen a guy put a supercharged 3800 motor into a montana. That thing was quick.

I would lean towards a cleaner wax as well. White wax is a great recommendation. I would also be sure to keep that trim looking good with some ultimate black.

Thanks, Guys! I'll have a look at and consider those waxes mentioned. I simply want to keep it looking good with minimal effort: after all, it's not a show car. That said, though, there's a certain pleasure to having an older vehicle looking and running well.

Oh...I actually did clay the vehicle last week, forgot to mention that. It certainly made a difference. Not sure if I got everything on the first pass with clay (used it all up), but 90% for sure and good enough for now. I'll likely do it once per year.

Going to attach a couple shots of the interior. I've slowly been working on that dirty spot where the driver's left foot would rest. 9 years of caked on salt and dirt that's coming off, but slowly. Been treating it with Turtle Wax carpet foam when I have a few minutes. The rest of the carpet just needs a quick shampoo, but still better than many interiors.

Also have some minor stains and scuffs on the leather that won't come out no matter what I try, I'll need to research a little. But, they aren't major and I'm not too concerned about them.

Bah. I messed up my photo links, I guess. And I can't edit the other post. So, let's try this again...

Looks real nice for a nine year old daily driver. It is nice when people take care of their vehicles, even when it is not some fancy, new sports car. Good on you.

                Well done.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Nice work! The van looks real old! Nah, kidding.. not bad (to say the least) for a van that's 162,000 kilometers old.. I particularly like how great the interiors turned out...

                    Thanks, Guys.

Nope. Not a sports car by any means! But, I enjoy this van quite a bit. Which, as I said above, actually surprises me as I've never been a fan. I only purchased it from my mother as I knew it was in great working order, it was time for a new vehicle, and I can't bring myself to purchase new these days. So, the bonus was I ended up liking it. lol.

You can thank my parents for looking after it pretty well for the first 150,000 or so.

Anyway, still some minor things I'll look after (always will be), but I'm happy and plan to keep this one going for a while. From what other happy Montana owners have told me, it's still got another 150,000 in 'er.
