  • Very happy with UPW, may put off layering with Gold Class.

I got UPW today and applied it after a full car wash. I did a little touch up polishing and cleaning. Finally, after it was all buffed off (the UPW) I was amazed at the results; I have a black metallic Ford Focus and nothing so far has really gotten it to "pop". Gold Class gives it a warmer more wet look, but kills the metallic flakes a little and the bumper looks dull, but not with the UPW.

I am considering putting off layering the Gold Class, but I could just try the layering as I assumed the top layer of Carnauba would wear off eventually if I wasn't happy with it leaving the base UPW layer relatively untouched.

Nice to hear you are liking UPW. If you like the look just keep it that way. In the future if you still want to top it with a carnauba I would highly recommend M26. UW/M26 is a great combo.

Ultimate Paste Wax performs like waxes which cost three times its price. Btw, M26 is a hybrid wax, blend of natural and synthetic ingredients, therefore it offers the best of both worlds.

I am going to try layering Gold Class. From what I understand I have nothing to lose since it will wear off eventually and leave the sealant (UPW).

I just hit the car all over with UQD and it looks immaculate. Again, I'm conflicted about doing anything to it. What would another layer of UPW do?

It should add just a bit more shine and maybe more protection. Remember that meguiars says adding another coat is recommended to ensure better, more even finish and not necessarily for more protection. And also there will be a point where you will no longer see any improvement and end up just wasting product.

Hit it with some Ultimate Quik Wax.

I could be wrong but I heard that GC is a vary mild cleaner/ polish wax? someone please correct me if I'm wrong. If it is the case then it might remove or weaken the UPW some.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing and I think I asked the same question in this thread.
I see people do it all the time on the forums. Also there is this video:

It's not scientific in process, but can't argue with that reflection in the video.

It's a polish/wax. UW is pretty durable stuff. You should have no problem layering GC over UW. I'll let Mr. Stoops give you the technical response.

If you are worried about GC possibly removing or compromising UW then consider M26.

For what it's worth, every time I have looked at my car today I have remarked "wow, that is crazy" (referring to the gloss.) It is weird because UPW never really gets mentioned compared to NXT 2.0, it seemed so underrated during my research.

The new generation of Meguiar's products is awesome. The Ultimate line is the best example, including Ultimate Wax which outlasts NxT Tech Wax 2.0 (paste is my preferred version). Widely available (including Walmart), user friendly, great performance and good price point (Ultimate Paste Wax could be easily in a boutique wax category).

Would M66 Glaze Quik Detailer be a UPW sealant safe detailer to use on a day to day basis without removing it?

No, it will remove the protection layer. Washing with Ultimate Wash or Gold Class Shampoo/Conditioner plus a spray of quick wax would be a good maintenance regime.

Re: Very happy with UPW, may put off layering with Gold Class.

GC is not a "cleaner" wax but has polishing oils and is also a hybrid/blend of polymers and carnauba, based on M26 Yellow Wax. D301, M20, and DCC are all blends - "synthetic" and carnauba - I don't know of a Meguiar's wax that doesn't have some degree of polymer protection, which is a good thing. GC/M26 yield for me a goldish sheen, of course, and D301 is blueish, for that "blue-black" look, so, D301 is even darker to me without so much harsh gloss.

The oft-mentioned Ultimate Wax might give more of a silvery sheen that pops more glossy for some paints, but I suspect UP or DCP or D302 or other polishes would do even better for that. A full polishing step before waxing may be better to establish a baseline gloss or deepening that you then put wax on to protect and "sheen", rather than using waxes alone to create the polish gloss or pop. Not sure what your process is, ajpFocus, so I might be stating the obvious for you.

As for the choice among all these waxes, it depends on the paint and the look we want, but the differences can be over-exaggerated on forums (we're all fans of this one or that one). If it says "Meguiar's" on the bottle, it's a great wax! One question for me really is whether wax "topping" with another wax actually works, so I use only one DA wax at a time and then maintain it.

Many of us grew up with that notion of waxing the car and just ignoring it for months or longer, but that's not the way we do it today. If you're re-waxing and/or regularly maintaining your waxed surface (QD, QW, WW, W&W), it just doesn't matter how long any wax lasts, but how it looks to you
