  • How much Ultimate Wash & Wax to use

I’ve decided to give Ultimate Wash and Wax a try this week, for maintenance in between waxing. I have heard some people say in various reviews of it, that they used significantly more of the wax/soap than the directions called for. Some are saying that they see more beading, when they use more than the recommended amount.

What do folks here do, and why? Is there a good reason why I SHOULDN’T use more than the recommended amount?

I want to do a test run, and wash half of some panels with Gold Class soap, and others with UWW, and look at the difference—so I’d like to use the optimal amount of each. I’d be more than happy to post a few pics here.

    I just use the recomended.

If I want actual wax, I use a spray wax while drying.

I doubt you will notice a difference between the two. Don't it expect it to bead like a regular wax. Use the recommended ratio and you will be fine. I believe it is 1oz/gal.

I tryed that, it didn't make a change just waste soap and taking forever to wash the soap off.

I like both the Gold Class and Ultimate Wash and Wax... both are my preferred Meguiar's wash products... both are rich and foamy and BEAT all their other consumer products hands down.

Personally I feel the Ultimate Wash and Wax is mostly a gimmick as the wax doubtfully sticks, but it may keep the wash from dissolving the wax you already have on the car.

Regardless they are both superior to the Nxt Wash, which is still good... and ALL three of them beat the Deep Crystal wash, which in my opinion is junk though probably still better than what you get if you take your car to an actual car wash.

          ********************

Regardless, do NOT use too much because you are more likely to strip off the wax. That is the ONLY reason! The reason you need the wash in the first place is mainly for lubricity, and ALL of the Meguiar's washes provide enough to get the job done...

To maximize the benefits of UWW you don't need to over use it. Instead, after washing a panel just do a light rinse of the surface rather than blasting it with a hard spray from the hose. UWW utilizes a dispersed wax instead of a soluble wax so it will actually leave something behind. If you're in the habit of using a pressure washer to rinse your car when washing, you might want to stop doing so with UWW.

As has been mentioned, this is not intended to be a substitute for a proper wax application, and it's not going to add crazy gloss to the paint surface. But if this is your routine wash product, it will definitely prolong the glossy appearance of your finish over time as it won't in any way dull down the finish or compromise the gloss of your existing wax.

Waterless wash-----Can you substitute Quick Detailer Spray for the Ultimate Wash and Wax if the vehicle is not overly dirty?

If you mean UWWA (Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere) in the spray bottle, then yes. In fact it will be better/safer than a QD.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

                  Thanks. That answer's my question.

Re: How much Ultimate Wash & Wax to use

Well today I had a little experiment. The car (Toyota Sienna minivan) had not been waxed or washed in about 2 1/2 months. I set up separate buckets of both GOld Class soap and Ultimate Wash & Wax, and on each section of the car, used Gold Class on the left side, and UWW on the right side. On the large sections (side doors) there was a lot more beading with the section that UWW was used on, than the regular car soap. I suppose that is to be expected.

Unfortunately, none of the pictures that I took really show any difference at all, even at 100% zoom. I am rather dissappointed about that. I took 19 pics, and made sure to take shots from a variety of angles. Oh well.

One thing, though, that was a pleasant surprise. When I washed the car a couple of months ago, I used Ultimate Liquid Wax, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much beading there was after the initial rinse (before any soap had been applied). I felt pretty good knowing that there was at least some protection for my paint, underneath all that dirt. I'm guessing (feel free to comment on this) that more than using one soap or the other, what would be best for the paint would simply be to wash it regularly. Someone in one thread I started, made that point, and it really came home today.

At any rate, the real test will be in a couple of weeks. I'll spray the car down and see which sections have more beading then. People here have said that UWW doesn't last that long. I'll spray it down after 2 weeks, and then do it again and wash it after a month. That will tell me how long the additional protection lasts.

Perhaps by then I can figure out how to take better pics.

Re: How much Ultimate Wash & Wax to use

I also use both GC and UWW, depending on the situation, and they are very similar in cleaning power except for the color, smell, and the wax/polymers left behind with UWW. I've probably been as guilty as anyone in putting too much product into the water, but I've found GC is great for cleaning when you don't want to leave more wax behind (say before a correction, or when you're going to QW), while UWW is for the opposite (say for regular maintenance). I don't expect UWW (or UWWA/D115 for that matter) to replace waxing the car, which is where QW comes in if you're not doing a full correction or re-wax. These products yield just a minor wax boost, enough to tide you over temporarily, they're not re-waxing. UWWA/D115, among its other amazing properties, also acts like a temporary spray sealant without compromising a carnauba finish mentality, as both UWW and UWWA/D115 contain carnauba. Anyway, you'll probably see more beading with UWW, but that doesn't mean anything, really.

Yeah, I read all teh time here that UWW is not a replacement for a wax job. Its just that I don't wash or wax as often as I should, and I'd like to put on something that will make my wax job (Ultimate Liquid Wax) last as long as possible. If I see any real difference between the two when I spray down the car in 2 or 3 weeks, I'll probably adopt that as my soap when I am not applying a wax later on.

You may want to consider adding ultimate quik wax into your wash regiment. That will extend the life of ULW.

That has been recommended to me here as well. I guess my concern is that applying UQW wouldn't really save me much time over using Ultimate Liquid Wax, which would be much better for the paint. Does UQW really save you time over an actual wax job?

Yes. QW'ing is the the next best thing to re-waxing (it really is re-waxing by spray), and it's only minutes. UWWA also boosts your wax for daily uses. The effect of using all of these approaches is to continually boost and extend whatever wax/sealant you're using, so that you do not have to wash or wax for long periods, depending on conditions.
