Re: Try It You'll Like It!

BillE No doubt about it!!! What is the best "no sling" tire dressing? I had some stain my paint, not a Meg's product by the way, on another vehicle and stopped using it. Just been using the old Westley's tire cleaner. Can't find the plastic dressing the Guz mentions in stores around here. Maybe have to order direct from the Meg's store on line?

I order D4510 online but I have seen it at my local pep boys. It is good for those hard to reach areas an especially grilles like your front one. It's an aerosol that makes it easy and it's quick. Ultimate Black is another good one and you could get in there with a foam applicator. UB is available at most stores.

My personal favorite Meguiar's tire dressing is D163 Tire & Trim Gel. It doesn't sling. This one you are probably going to have to order it online.

Thanks Guz I'll have to try it! Will have to order on line too. No Pep Boys in this neck of the woods.
I was really surprised the tire shine did that. It took full strength IPA to get it off and I could still tell where it was. Had to compound and polish to get it where I could live with it.

Hot rims all wheel & tire cleaner works really well at cleaning tires as does APC. Especially with a tire brush to remove all the dirt, grime and old tire dressing.

Here are the photos of the actual products.

Thanks a lot for the help!!! I can feel my OCD for detailing rising from the depths again! My other half has no comprehension/understanding how addicting this obsession with vehicles can be!

Re: Try It You'll Like It!

The paint looks amazing on your truck, ORANGERT! It's sort of a forum thing for a guy to make his paint look amazing, post pictures, only to have the rest of the community pick him apart for not having the tires and/or wheel wells dressed!!! Consider yourself officially initiated into the brotherhood!!

Regarding a tire dressing that won't sling; the biggest thing is how you apply it. Any tire dressing will sling if it's over applied and/or the vehicle is driven too soon after application. Apply any tire dressing sparingly to a clean and dry tire, then come back a few minutes later with an old terry cloth towel and give the tire a final wipe to remove any excess. Water based dressings will generally dry completely dry, but they won't last very long since they're water based. Gels and other solvent based dressings tend to last longer, but they don't necessarily dry completely so an over application means too much excess in all the little nooks, grooves, letters, etc of a modern tire. When that happens, physics eventually takes over and the stuff will let go at the most inopportune moment. And of course it will land on the side of your vehicle. That final wipe with an old terry towel should solve that problem.

Now, as for your forum name - ORANGERT; what orange car are you hiding from us??????

Thank you! It's a 2013 Hemi Challenger Classic R/T in Hemi Orange Pearl Coat. I already have the winter wheels and tires on it in the pic but needless to say it only goes out on sunny and dry days in the winter! I only use M205,#7, and #26 on it.
