not sure where to start

Hi All,

I desperately need some help. I was washing the truck the other day, and noticed the regular bugs and tar. I had run out of remover and ran to get some. As I returned, my girlfriend had decided to take a soft scrubbie from the kitchen and take the tar off. Leaving multiple deep swirl marks on the truck. Its a 2006 Tacoma with factory finish. What product shall I start with? I can't feel the scratches with a fingernail but they are very noticable. I tried a light compound with the rotary but they didn't go away. They are all over the place, MY POOR TRUCK!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

(and no I didn't kill the girlfriend. lol)

What kind of compound? Do u have alot of experience with a rotory or is it really a wax buffer ur referring to as a rotory? Just need a littl more info to give u better advice.

Got some experience with a rotary and some with a DA. Started out with medium cut #1. didnt know how abrasive I should go. Not sure how to post pics with the url thing (not computer savvy)

The rule of thumb is to start with the least aggressive product first and if that doesn't work well enough then move on to the next more aggressive one. That applies to the compounds and application tools like foam pads, MF's, etc. Stay calm and proceed thoughtfully, you don't want to do more damage.

Ok, so #1 wasn't aggressive enough.

What other compounds do you have?

I'd suggest something like M105 or Ultimate Compound.

It looks fixable though, so relax..

If a rotary and #1 didnt do anything, I would have some questions about technique, what you were doing, etc. Those could easily leave more marring really....

Oh my.. I feel sorry for your girlfriend and hope you took a deep breath or 2 before reacting to what you came home to.. You didn't kill her, that's a good sign.

U should b ok with the right tools, products, and technique. Keep patient and it will go good. U got some of the most knowledgable guys helping u here. Those guys really know what they're talking about!

First of all I can't thank you guys enough for responding, I've heard nightmares about forums. I'm glad I joined.I used an 8000 pad which is all I had left for the rotary. I knew the da wouldn't do much. Was gonna order some more materials since I'm running low on everything. Wanted to get some info on what I should look into. I've been using Megs all my life but now theres so many different prducts it can get confusing. I grew up with paste wax lol.

A da really should fix it, unless she really dug in.

But I think something like Ult. Compound would be more appropriate for fixing it.

Using some pressure.. slow movements..

Ok. So I'll try the ultimate with the da, if that doesnt do it I'll have to go with the 105 and rotary. I will let you guys know how it goes, hopefully test out on sunday. Thanks again for the info

I am going to recommend the microfiber cutting pads as another option with D300 or M105.

I agree with guz. I would suggest that over the rotary, unless ur really skilled with the rotary, but even still pros like the mf disc over the rotary.
