Re: not sure where to start

Also, I have the 26 HT Yellow Wax and NXT 2.0. Which should I follow with? I also have mirror glaze. It was a harsh winter this year I wonder if I should UC the whole truck before I apply layers of wax

Do u see any swirls? Look at it in the sun cuz uc might not be necessary. Also what mirror glaze do u have #7?
Is so u can apply that then the nxt 2.0 followed by #26 with a 12 hour wait time inbetween the 2.0 and 26.
But b sure to wash then clay if u haven't Clayed the ride in awhile. But if u have alot of swirls then u should wash, clay, uc, #7 ( but up would b more ideal), nxt 2.0, and # 26 .

Re: not sure where to start

On the bright side, looks like she got the tar off, LOL. OK, so maybe not that funny now but it doesn't look that bad from the photos so you should be able to correct.

I'd likely grab a DA with a Meguiar's Microfiber cutting pad to begin with. I'd start with #205 and try a couple passes over one of the damaged areas to see if this will smooth thing out. I'd follow up with a Polishing MF pad and finally a Finishing MF pad. #204 has a good work time and I suspect you will probably get the results with this combination. Its mandatory that you blow out the MF pads frequently to keep them working. The supplies you'll need should be available at most auto supply stores or even some WalMarts.

FWIW, my uncle did a similar thing only he used SOS pads. A senior moment and a real mess, that was. It did clean up though and those scratches were pretty deep.

It is certainly a good idea to clay/clean the paint before waxing.

UC can be applied gently to act as a mild cleaner, rather than buying more things.

Just less pressure, faster movement, unlike removing defects.

Re: not sure where to start

Well, I started getting them out. Not sure it was the right way but I did a test run on an old trunk lid from the boneyard first. Ended up using the rotary with #1 and a wool pad. Followed it up with the UC and UP with the DA. It's looking like glass... Thank you guys so much for the help and info, Should I follow up with clay before I wax? If so what kind? Only got one side done, but once I finish I will post pics. It looks better than ever!!!

Re: not sure where to start

Glad it's working out for you!

You really should have clayed BEFORE you compounded / polished.

For the rest of ther car, clay first. In fact, may as well just clay the whole car.

Just the Megs consumer clay should be fine (Smooth Surface Clay Kit).

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
