  • Rinsing the car between steps?

If I am unable to finish all the steps in one day (because I do not have a shaded area all day to work in), should I rinse the car and dry it before beginning the next step. For example, if I get the car washed and clayed and I have to stop for the day. The next day should I rinse off anything that got on the car and then move on to polishing or compounding? Can I rinse the car between any of the steps?

Thanks for your time and assistance....Stacy

Depending on where you are, the sun isnt always bad. You just dont want the surface to get hot...

Yeah, a rinse or QD spray would be good.

I wouldnt want to rinse/qd after the polish... try for after cleaning only, or after a coat of wax... but the polishing oils alone are more likely to be removed some.

You can also start again the next day on a particular panel using your claying-use or regular-use QD to lightly clean up, then step through the procedure necessary for that panel before starting on the next panel. Through variations, I've gotten to where I'll just do the "washing" per panel with QD (unless it's too dirty for that, in which case, I wouldn't be doing correction work, but full suds washing). Doing the whole vehicle for each step will almost never work out for those of us doing our own cars, due to time, experience, light, equipment, and so on. Also, a garage wouldn't make much of a difference overnight (depending on weather), as dust will still settle - at least, that is what I tell myself, since mine's not garage-kept, either
