I usually clay the glass and use the professional version of ultimate quik wax (D156). It's quick and works great. I apply once a month during my maintenance wash where I use quick wax. In between I use the professional version of ultimate quik detailer (M135). I keep my interior clean so I usually use quik interior detailer as my base on the rubber and plastics. I use it for it's light cleaning ability. I follow that with ultimate protectant for longer protection. Not sure if you have leather but for my leather seats I use meguiar's leather sealer system.

If you like armor all and it works you can keep using that.

People here will pick a Meguiars product over Armor All usually.... but mostly up to what you are looking for.
    This is another good option.

The blue version is a more aggressive version and unless you had huge amounts of stuck on tar and overspray paint, the original yellow is perfect for your needs. The ricardo clay is some of the best detailing clay in the world but it can't be sold in the USA due to a patent dispute so users on this site probably don't have any experience using it. You get a much larger quantity of clay with the Ricardo box than in a kit and you can still buy quick detailer separately. I second Gus' recommendation: use only a part of the clay because if you drop it you must throw it away.

If you can return the Simoniz Microfiber towels, perhaps they have some quality Meguiar's towels for sale? Or you can get the Autoglym towel. My next purchase at canadian tire will be the Meguiar'S waffle towels for drying. They are on sale now!

Speak to Joey from www.eleganceautodetailing.com . He has grit guards, the detail clay, microfiber towels. He also sells clay lube but all it is his own mixture of Optimum No Rinse car wash (which he also sells). I recommend buying a small bottle of Optimum no rinse and mixing your own clay lube (2oz Optimum no rinse per litre if I recall). You can also mix the no rinse at a higher concentration to make a Quick detailer. Ask Joey where you can get some polishing pads. Autoglym makes a polishing pad if you want. The whole Autoglym line is on sale at Canadian tire but I recommend buying Meguiar's products if you can find them because at about the same price range, Meguiar's offers more professional quality, in my opinion.

However, if you like paste waxes, I use the Autoglym HD wax kit. It's 50$ and comes with 2 foam applicators, a high quality microfibre towel and a relatively large quantity of wax. The wax is also VERY easy to buff off once cured and leaves a deep wet shine that is to die for. Also, relatively durable for a carnauba/poly wax.

P.S. order a Porter CAble from eshine.ca if you can afford it. The PC + a backing plate and a set of 3 pads is about 190$ and there is free shipping on orders above 150$. They ship VERY quickly. You'll find out that applying wax and polishes by hand is sooo long, it's just ridiculous. However, if you are retired and have days if not weeks to spend on detailing, then do it by hand if you like
The clay patent is over. Ricardo clay has been available to purchase through places like autogeek for a few months. I would still recommend the clay kit.

You will get a lot of meguiar's recommendations here hence the forum lol. Meguiar's products perform just as well and since you are just starting out the clay kit will work just fine for you. I would still consider a clay alternative such as the nanoskin autoscrub sponge. I use the sponge with D155 last touch which is a bulk version of QD that can be diluted for clay lube.

You could also pick up the clay from the pro version

D155 last touch is very cost effective. Can be used straight as QD or diluted 1:1 for clay lube. It goes for $20 for 1 gallon here.

Looking at the photos, I think you will be fine with ultimate polish. Do a test spot with ultimate polish and if it looks like it is working then just use that and then follow up with wax. Use UC for spot corrections where UP can;t get those defects out.

Is the rear bumper plastic trim? If so some ultimate black would give it some life as well as protect it so it doesn't fade on you.

    Posted your photos.

If you have never clayed before, then I would just say to plan on it when you do your next detail. But the plastic baggy test is good also.

And yeah, clay the glass too...

I found the PC DA at autogeek and they sell kits with pads. What is the difference between the flat and the one with tiny holes? I guess the one with tiny holes are more abrasive? also, which kit do you recommend for a beginner. check this link http://www.autogeek.net/po.html I don't know what kind of pads I need for polish, wax, compound.

Can I just buy the sponge instead of clay? I found a blue and red sponge, I guess I should buy the blue one since its milder than the red one

Re: New to detailing, need help

Ok guys, I'm about to place my order. here's my shopping cart

Gold class soap and wash mitt are on backorder so I couldn't add them to the cart. I also have the water magnet drying towel. Do I need something else? Towels, applicators etc? For the interior, I saw like 4 different type of spray, which one is the best for black interior?

              thanks

Let me know if you get hit with duty and brokerage. I'd order from autogeek if it wasn't for the fear of getting reamed with fees going across the border. I didn't see a tire dressing in your list. I used to think it was unnecessary but I used it for the first time and now I'm hooked! I bottle keeps your tires looking nice and black and really adds to the cleanliness of your car. Especially with all the gravel parking spots "en region du Quebec" as they say.

You can get gold class soap at Canadian tire.

I hope I can refuse my parcel if I have duty fees, my mom ordered an electric collar for her dog and ending with 180$ of duty fees so she refused the parcel. I'll look for a tire dressing but other than that do I have anything I need? If I wash my car every weeks, do you think I need the quick detailer spray? I'm trying to get everything I need without going overboard. I think soap, clay, polish, compound, wax & quick wax, interior detailer and tire dressing are enough right? As well as a washing mitt, MF towel, Drying towel, foam applicator. Do I need MF applicator for wax, like these ones http://www.autogeek.net/x3080.html ?

                    thanks

Sorry I can't edit my last post. For the black trim protector, I was planning to buy Ultimate black plastic restorer but then I saw ultimate protectant spray which can be use for interior and exterior so should I but this one instead of Ultimate black AND quick interior detailer?

Personally, I went with M205 Finishing polish rather than the ultimate polish. From what I can gather, Ultimate polish has limited correction ability. I might also drop the Ultimate compound. I bought some because I have a 2007 car with medium paint problems like scratches and scuffs that I will have to repair. If your car is brand spanking new, I'd hold out on the compound. It's easy to find at Canadian tire. I would order the M205 though which is a milder polish that still has some correction ability as that cannot be found at CT.

thanks and for the black trim? can I just buy one product that is good for both interior and exterior? The only black trim I have are my mirrors and rear diffuser

Something went wrong with my last post. So here's my final cart http://imageshack.com/a/img845/1456/01qp.png

still waiting for murr's answer before placing my final order. I keep the UC because I made a nice swirl marks and want to remove it.

I'm not sur about the black trim restorer, should I buy one for interior, one for exterior or I can just buy one that do both? Oh and maybe this sponge http://www.autogeek.net/nanoskin-spe...nge-combo.html instead of the clay kit...

Since canadian tire and walmart have cheap MF towels, I also want to order all the towel I need from autogeek. I have the supreme shine I guess its for wax removing? Also have the water magnet for drying (One is enough?) and foam applicator for wax, polish and compound. Am I all good?

I would recommend using M205 or swirlX to get rid of swirls, not a compound. Aside from M105, Ultimate compound is one of the most aggressive compounds Meguiars offers and I think that's too much for what you want to do. I would also get 2 grit guards rather than one since you should wash with the two bucket technique.

beats me why you wanna load up with a huge bunch of just Meguiar's products from the states when you can order from eshine.ca and have a selection of many different products. Many meguiars stuff you are ordering can be found locally anyway. Whatever floats your boat!

P.S. If you refuse the package, you still won't be refunded the products.
