Ultimate Compound straight to Ultimate Wax??

I've been reading several forums and I'm getting mixed messages. Some say it's OK to go from the Ultimate Compound straight to the Wax and others say that you need to use the Ultimate Polish in between the Compound and the Wax? Can someone give me a straight answer? I was planning on Washing, Claying, Ultimate Compound to the Ultimate Wax with no Ultimate Polish in between. Is this OK?

If after UC, you are satisfied with the results, you can go straight to wax and there is no harm in it.
Most go to UP to refine the paint further as UC can leave some haze on softer paints.

I agree, and we use the polish to create the show car glossy shine many people seem to expect from the wax alone. If you're doing all this by hand, the polish will also help hide the holograms and edges from hand compounding. I know it's an extra step, but it will make all the difference. If you clay, compound and polish, the surface will look finished and glossy. You then put on a very thin layer of wax merely as protection for the clay, compound and polish.

In many cases, yes, you can go straight from UC to wax without issue. But it all comes down to how the paint responds to the UC application. The paint is always the big variable, and some paint systems will correct easily and look fantastic after nothing but UC, in which case going straight to wax is fine. Your goals with the paint also come into play; are you chasing a true "show car" shine or are you looking for just a very good clean up for the paint? What sort of time and effort are you willing to put into the paint? Not everyone has the same goals and not all paint is the same. After doing your correction with UC it is then up to you to evaluate the finish and make the final determination - straight to wax or polish first - and proceed accordingly.

And herein lies the rub: a plan is one thing, but will reality prove your plan to be the right one? When it comes to detailing and paint polishing, a "plan" as outlined here is really just a "suggestion" before starting. Do a test spot first and evaluate the finish to determine if a polish step is needed, based on the discussion above. That's when you truly come up with a "plan" for the project. Until you've actually started working on the paint you don't really know how it's going to respond, so that test spot is mandatory.
