  • Consumer line non acidic wheel cleaner?

    Hello everyone,

I am supposed to use non acidic wheel cleaners only on my wheels according to the manual. I was wondering which one(s) of the consumer line wheel cleaners are not acidic?

    Thanks.

Your best bet is to go with Megs All Wheel and Tire Cleaner. It comes in a clear pinkish purplish bottle. It's non acidic and safe for almost, if not, all wheel types. Of course try it on a small area of your wheels first and always follow directions.

Are these factory wheels? If they are all wheel and tire cleaner will work. If not you could use the aluminum cleaner which is less aggressive but still gets the job done. I would still double check before you go out and purchase either one.

Only use a wheel cleaner when car soap and water doesn't get your wheels clean.

If the wheels are not trashed, APC+ does one hell of a job.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been washing my wheels 3-4 times a month throughout the winter with hyperwash but there is some brake dust that i cant get out. Maybe I should have used BDB before the winter season. At some point I doubled the concentration of hyper wash but there are still some brake dust that won't come off. Is there any reason not keep increasing the concentration ratio of hyper wash to get the job done? I feel like this has to be safer than a dedicated wheel cleaner.

I only use suds-n-mitt with wash-n-wax while washing, unless I've been caught in the rain or something and they are really dirty. I've found any typical wheel cleaner is good to break down the brake dust, or tire foam, and then I can follow with suds-n-mitt. Between these washings, for weeks, I just use quik detailer to wipe them down, occasionally with quik wax as well.

Something like the Aluminum Wheel Cleaner or even the All Wheel (assuming yours are coated) will be much easier than slowly increasing Hyper Wash.

I'd certainly recomend giving a good cleaning with one of those, even with TRIX as well, and then a good coating of BDB. Should be good with soapy water after that for a while.

                    Murr,

My wheels are factory wheels so they should be clear coated? I am not familiar with Trix, is it stronger than AWTC or is it Somewhere between aluminium and AWTC? Is it also non acidic?
After cleaning the wheels using BDB sounds good. I will definitely do that this time

Typically, factory OEM wheels are clear coated and Meg's wheel cleaners should be safe.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Meg's wheel cleaners are alkaline rather than acid.
Having said that, when in doubt you can contact Meg's customer service to check to see if they are safe on your wheels.

No, the T.R.I.X. is kind of completely different, focuses more on brake dust and tar. (Good for the whole car actually.)

Might have to wash the wheels, then TRIX, then wash, then let dry, then BDB.
