  • Can I leave a minor scratch alone?

I drove off a parking lot and something was on the ground, ended up driving over it and it made a bad noise. I checked out the car later and there are a few 5mm to 10mm marks on the lower edge of my car door. They were white in color. I rubbed at it with some Quik Detailer and the white is gone, but I can feel the scratch with fingernail and doesn't look like it went through the paint. My question is what should I do to protect the paint from further damage since it feels like the clearcoat is gone in that specific area. Thanks.

Any chance of posting a pic of the damage?

I will try to take a picture and post it on Tuesday. It's a dark gray car and I had to look closely to see it again.

You could use some clearcoat touchup in the tube.

I'm very interested in that Paint Defender for the lower inside lip of my doors to prevent rusting. How easy is it to use and how well does it hold up?

First two images of the nick on the door, and the last one is on the thing that runs below the door. I think my goals are to prioritize preventing rust and future peeling of clear coat and to protect it from further worsening damage. Lesser priority is making it look invisible. I don't have any polishing/sanding tools with me.

I would have to agree with dr. color chip.

Thanks, will give that a try. Do you think it went through the paint layer? What is the best way to prep the surface before applying this product? And how would I protect the Dr Color Chip paint in the future?

I don't think you went all the way through, but it doesn't matter.
