  • Question on stacking products.

I used a Meguires Ultimate polish followed by Four Start Ultimate Paint Protection (sealant) yesterday. I left the car in the garage over night and went down this morning (over 12 hours later) and applied Meguiars high tech wax with the Porter Cable and removed by hand.

Will the Meguiars High Tech have removed my UPP being that both are synthetics or will the Meguiars just add a layer of modified Carnauba like I hoped for, while leaving the UPP layer underneath?

I'm trying to get the maximum dark/wet look from my 2012 Victory Red Cruze. I still feel that it should look deeper. I don't know where to go from here.

I did also clay the top vertical surfaces yesterday before the PC application of the Ultimate polish.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm going insane and wanting a look that I just can't get for myself. I have people chasing down the road to ask me how I get my paint to look like it does, but I still look at it and think that I should be able to do better.

Maybe tomorrow I'll cover it with Ultimate Quick Wax and see if that adds anything to the depth.

WHat you did is fine there should be no issues.

As for the wet look have you thought about Opti coat at all?

The key thing is the prep and polish work on anything to achieve maximum shine gloss and depth but opti -coat does add lots of gloss.

This is where I'm at now. Opti coat sounds like something that might-could go really bad trying to apply.

This is my current product level of experience, or what I have and have learned to utilize.

Are you around Pittsburgh to help with this Opti coat?

Your Cruze looks nice, but I agree you should be able to get it deeper / wetter looking than that.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

And I swear that 6 months ago it had that more deep look to it. Or maybe I'm going mental and just think that it was better. I need to use that Ultimate Compound on the sides a bit more, I can still see the horizontal fine lines from through the car wash. The "damage" done by a car wash ***** if your trying to keep your paint in like new condition. I suppose that the average car owner doesn't even know what swirls are or see the fine scratches, but the more I get into this the more fine level details I see in my cars that drives me nuts!

My Camaro that's a year old with 4500 miles on it had massive amounts of swirls from the factory. That's another job for another day.

                  Re: Question on stacking products.

What did you use to apply the Ultimate Polish with? Hand or machine? Type of pad?

It's hard to give an accurate assessment of the gloss level from your pics. It looks like it was an overcast day or perhaps it was really bright when you took them?

My thought would be to use Ultimate Compound in a small test spot, say 12 x 12, and then follow with Ultimate Polish. See what that does to the depth level. If you're seeing scratches they could well be taking away the depth of gloss you remember/want.

Your Cruze looks very shiny, but we all want that extra depth. After you try out Ultimate Compound and if the paint is clear and glossy after UC, I would also give M07 or Deep Crystal Pure Polish a try, then Ultimate Wax, after 12 hours, maybe a coat of M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

Be warned though, M07 is can be a pain to use. Remember to apply real thin, as thin as humanly possible, remove while wet, and has to be removed in stages. Meaning you wipe off in several passes rather than like a wax where you apply, let haze, remove. But it's well worth the effort though, and on black or dark paint, wow... DEPTH is what you get..

                            Re: Question on stacking products.

A couple of thoughts here -

We have a Victory Red Chevy Cobalt at home (my wife's car, actually) and I've found that works best for me after a full correction is to machine apply M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a foam finishing pad at speed 4. I then finish it off with Ultimate Wax paste. Victory Red is one of the best shades of red on the market and it can look amazing with the right treatment.

As for the Opti-Coat option, while certainly an option, it alone is not going to get you the extra pop you're looking for. It is a really great product, don't get me wrong here, but of all the "coatings" on the market it's not the highest gloss option. It may well be the longest lasting of the coatings currently available, but it's not the glossiest.

Please understand that the above comments are from my personal experience and reflect my personal opinions and not necessarily any "official" statement by Meguiar's regarding another manufacturer's product.

I have a Porter Cable that I set on #5 with Meguiars polishing pad. The photos were looking into sun and I had to jack with my phones exposure setting to get the car not to be nearly black and shadowed so the pictures may not be the optimal to show it. I use all meguiars pads with the PC to polish and apply wax/sealant.
